HD 6850 / GTX 460 1GB / GTX 465??

Right so I'm selling my 5770, and am looking for a faster card.

The one's that I can afford are several GTX 465's I don't really like because of the heat and power consumption, the Palit GTX 460 1GB Sonic, the PNY GTX 460 1GB OC and I can get a Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 for around 150 euros

I will probably have around 160-170 euros to spend. Right now I'm leaning towards the PNY GTX 460 1GB OC, since it looks so much better than the Palit one, it's factory overclocked, and I heard the Palit Sonic is a bit noisy.

Righto! please share your knowledge and opinions!

stock reference 460's are all excellent mate i own 3 2 inno3d and an asus and they all perform awsome and overclock like stink so u cant go with with any one except the palits they look poo!

there's quite a price gap between the 1gb and 768's so u can get one of the 768's and then with the money u save u can get another one for sli

I would look into something from either ASUS or MSI as both have the best air cooling solutions on the market with ASUS and their Direct CU and MSI with their Cyclone and Twin Frozr.

And if you'd like to Join our Folding team I'd recommend a 460 in either 768mb or 1gb flavors!

Asus and MSI cards are above my budget. The DirectCU for example is a really nice card but costs 20-30 euro's more than the PNY.

I'm probably going to go with the PNY GTX460 1GB, but I'm not sure yet. I might run F@H on it when I'm at school, like I'm doing with my CPU now.

As for the SLI stepster, that's not gonna work. I've got a P45 motherboard

Check the MSI Cyclone, they just dropped prices in the US down to ~150 dollars using a MIR, not sure what your prices are like in Europe.

I know mate and I would if I had the money, but I simply don't. Spent a lot of money lately and there isn't much left. By selling my 5770 and getting a GTX 460 1GB I get a nice performance boost for about 30-40 euros, while another 5770 would set me back 130 euros.

Ever since the change of screen and thereby increase in resolution I get lag when running the games at the settings I used to (but with the new resolution ofcourse).

I just need a graphics card that can handle the Full HD resolution a bit smoother, and I think the GTX 460 1GB is the card for me. That, and the fact that I can then run F@H on the GPU AND the CPU, instead of just on the CPU. I will need some help setting up F@H for the GPU though, but I'll check out some guides for that, and if that doesn't work I can always askhere

The MSI GTX460 Cyclone 1GB/OC is 185 euros in the Netherlands. The non-OC version isn't sold anymore.

I also don't see the point of getting it. There's better ones out there when it comes to the cooling solution. It's noisier and performance about the same as the reference cooler (according to a review I read).

one thing to remember tho mate when ur running the gpu client on the 460's u get these new 9xx wu's that will make your smp take a hit

but least ur gettin trid of amd stuff mate there only good at gaming useless at everything else

Oh well, my Q8200 is a bad folder anyway

I primarily use my machine for gaming anyway, so I've nothing against AMD cards, the 4770 served me well and so has the 5770, but right now there isn't anything better than the GTX 460 1GB at that pricepoint. There's the 6850 which is slower and about the same price, then there's the 6870 which is faster but also more expensive. I would go for a 6870 but I simply cannot afford it.

Fastest cake in the world -S-gone.

£174 delivered with free Mafia 2. So basically about £150. They're now back to £187.99 + £8.99 shipping which still beats the pants off of any one else (£200+).

Apparently they do around 23k in vantage. So that's absolutely unbeatable for the price. Nothing can go close.

I spoke to a friend of mine who owns one and got the temps.. 50c idle and 78 is the highest hes ever seen it go. He lives in Spain and he has one of those new Dellienware MATX. I checked the power consumption and my 5770s use more. And, with my 5770s idling @ 39c thats two lots of heat.

If the 470 didn't come close or go much faster I wouldnt have gone near it. But my rads do 16.5k in vantage and I get no physx, no cuda and have to rely on patches. And, that's what made my mind up.For three days New Vegas was running awesome. Installed the patches, come to find it was crap and only using one card. I'm tired of using two.

And if I cool it well (£40 for an arctic triple) it will eat the radeons alive.

Good Edition lmao. That's funny

I'll hold off on the cooler for now. TBH a 470 offers me 30% more performance over my 5770CF. I know every one will rip me for heat and power consumption but tbh?

Well firstly the radeons use more power idle. They also use more power under load. In my old board butted up the bottom card idled 42c and the top one 49c. I know you can't add the temps together but I would bet they heat the room about the same. They're just as noisy as they use the awful blower and I lived with a 280 for 8 months (XXX OC idled nearly 70c) and it wasn't a problem. Also it's winter now, so I can get away with the stock cooler until at least May.

As I say, noise isn't a problem. It's the exact same cooler as my 280 so I know exactly what to expect. It will run cooler though as my 280 was OC to about 660mhz.

I'd also rather spend £20 more in total and have the arctic triple. Even tho that good edition cooler is good the arctic is miles better. I mean sheesh, you've seen what it does to a 5970 (toxic).

i think its the plus (new one) you want not the one used on the 5870's

good edition rocks as a name

TBH it would be good to see hw it performs just set the fan to 60%

Not to be off topic, I'd suggest you to wait a little bit longer, as the prices are dropping every single day. I was Checking the 1GB Gigabyte version (the one i bought for £168 couple of weeks ago), and it was £155 yesterday, and dropped to £152 today. Now, the new ATI's are here, prices will drop even further.. Or get yourself one of those. It is one of the cheapest 1GB versions, but has an improved cooling and overclocks really well.

I just read a review on the 470. It overclocks really well. Apparently so well that it can beat a 5870. Mind you, the 5870 isnt overclocked.

I just want a one card does all tbh. To get Physx I need to run three and they all end up running the same heat as a 470. Each card.

The 470 will easily match the 5770s in the worst case scenario and is one card. Has Physx, Cuda, and doesn't need patches profiles or anything else. I have begun to notice recently more and more games are only using one of my cards and it's mega hassle wiping all the profiles and putting them back ETC.

For the price I paid I'm dead chuffed. Only downside is Stepy has gotten his folding teeth in now and won't let go
