So, after reformatting Windows because 10.12 machine gunned the hell out'a my Windows install I'm back up and running with 10.4.

Now I have a new problem.

Start watching an AVI file, it'll freeze - the screen goes black and then comes back with a ATI driver failure message in the bottom right - the computer then blue screens with an ATI driver system file.

Any ideas?

I hate to tell you this but your graphics card could be borked.

I could be miles off the marker but whenever I kill my 8800 Ultra (before baking it again) the same thing happens. The card behaves quite well until I run something strenuos and then it flashes some crap and I get a warning message from Windows in the bottom right saying the driver crashed and reloaded.

As I say I could be wrong but it just sounds odd that you reinstalled Windows with a different driver and the problem still persists.

I'd love it to be borked.

It's still in Warranty and then I can get a real graphics card (nVidia) that doesn't have drivers that are so bad most people are still on 7 generation old drivers (10.12 out yet most use 10.4).

I'll be able to get a GTS 450 or 460 and get some nice F@H PPD too
