Nope, closest I've got is up-scaled 4K on a 1440p screen.

random question incoming, how can you increase a res to 4k on something that isnt 4k, now i maybe silly here but isnt 4k pixel density, and no matter what software you have you cannot magically create additional pixels on your screen.

I used DSR in Nvidia Control Panel.

Played on a fair few 4K screens and I'm not sold.

The visual difference between 1440P and 4K is just so incredibly tiny yet the performance difference so huge that for me it's just not worth it.

Skyrim plays no problems at 4k.
Gta5 is ok out of the city but needs more firepower once inside.
Elite dangerous no problems with that.
Half life 2 + the expansions = no problems.
World of tanks, no problems.
World of warships, no problems.

That's only on a 970, screen is a 49" Hisence tv.
I tried the same pc on a LG oled, it was good however not worth the x 3 cost.

The sample films look great, life of pi particularly so.
At the moment no 4k blu ray drive is available for the pc, news suggests pioneer have 2 but only to be sold in Japan.

I have revenant on 4k disk ready, just waiting for a way to play it, as i'm not buying an xbox one s just to do that. :)

Irony at it's finest.

Whatever you say dude. You do you.

Yup, I should have bought a 1080.

lmao. So glad he actually understood what I had typed there.

For some reason I could not quote his post, so I will C&P it.

I mean it sounds like you went into this without understanding what resolution actually is? Without additional texture resolution, all monitor resolution does is reduce the size of the pixels, and so reduces aliasing. If you do have the high res textures, though, and have particle effects the additional detail is there. That said, if you only have a 1440p display a Titan X is a complete waste of money. You should have got a 1080 for around half the price.

Your last point is completely wrong for PC. Games will render at whatever resolution you set them to. The PS4 Pro uses checkerboard upscaling to appear 4K because it isn't powerful enough, but PC games running at 4K are 4K native.

You know what they say about assumptions, right?

Firstly I don't have a Titan XP. What I was saying there was that the Titan XP is really the only GPU on the market today that can put up a decent fight at 4k. Yes yes, supposedly the Titan XM could do it with older games (and the 980ti) but I don't consider barely scraping the minimums and maxing out in the 30s as "enough".

I bought 4k when it literally first came out. So I was running two Titan Blacks. It was so so with SLi support but then SLi took a nose dive and I was left struggling.

I then wasted more money on GPUs and god knows what else before throwing in the towel. I understand how it works perfectly thanks, but I found that 4k with no AA did not look better enough to warrant all of that GPU horsepower. So I dropped to 1440p, no more headaches or performance issues.

I can also tell you that some games looked barely any better, if any better at 4k. Placebo and all of that. I thought I may actually suffer dropping to 1440p but it seems I shouldn't have worried.

But do feel free to continue. 8 posts, I can see you're already making friends.

Oh, and some games looked worse at 4k. By the time you reduced the settings enough to get a decent smooth gaming experience they actually looked worse than 1440p maxed out because of the gargantuan hit your GPUs take at 4k shoving around all of those extra pixels.

That's exactly why 1440P is the sweet spot :)

Here's a good test, One of these is Batman at 1440P and the other is Batman at 4K, Wonder if anyone can tell them apart ^_^

Ooh, I like this game!

I'd say the right one is 4k. Batman's suit appears marginally sharper looking on the right image.

I have a 4K screen but currently I run it at 1080p and play most games at 1080p thanks to the games that I play, being made nearly impossible to play at 4K anymore.

The Division was always a issue for me at 4K with Medium settings barely scrapping 40fps drop to 1080p and I am getting anywhere from 130 to 190fps, apart from when it has a fit and drops to 70fps and feels really laggy.

Elite Dangerous use to run like a dream at 4K maxed out but now it's nearly unplayable thanks to the stutter when coming out of hyperspace, supercruise or trying to land at stations or on planets, and the stutter stays there at all resolutions until I get down to 1080p where it goes away.

Call Of Duty games have never ran smoothly at 4K, but personally I think that is more down to the games not being optimised properly on the pc.

Battlefield 4 and 1 both run great at 4K at over 100fps but I barely play them anymore.

When I get my new graphics cards which will hopefully be this month or next month depends on funds, then I will try the games again at 4K but I am not holding my breath for them being great.

I'll be honest, When WYP did his games review showing 4k or other sites reviewing 1440p vs 4k.. I don't see much of a difference.

It needs to really shine and stand out to sell me. I would rather drop more money on a 1440p IPS. well I actually got the PG348Q so yeah this one is beautiful for me.

so to the point...
4k for me is a waste of money and doesnt differ that much from 1440p.

I have a 4K Gsync screen, and as many here have already said, it's not worth it. Not worth the extra horsepower for sure. Thankfully the games I've played on it work well enough with a pair of 980s (Fallout 4, Civ 5, Skyrim, etc). If I was playing more recent AAA titles, I'm sure I'd be struggling and swearing. 1440p is definitely the sweet spot, and if I had a do over, that's where I would have gone.
