Has anyone out there OC'd a 3.2Ghz P4 Extreme Edition before.

My 3.4 478 died last night but i can get hold of an extreme 3.2 at the right price.

Basically there is a £20 difference in the price between the 3.2 512/2M/800 extreme or the 3.4 1M/800, i know the level 2 is only 512mb on the extreme but it has a 2M level 3 cache.

Any input whould be helpful as i have nevered Oc'd one of these before.

The board it is going in is an Abit IC7 Max 3 which does support the 3.2 extreme.

Sorry posted in wrong section, unable to delete have reposted in correct section (overclocking) can a MOD please delete.

I had both a 3.2 and 3.4 EE CPU's - not much between em to be honest - I actaully got my best scores with a 3.4 prescott ;)

By the way you need to mod the IC7 in various places to get the most out of it - best board out the box is the ASUS P4C800-E DLX - both of which are good for the EE CPU's - if you can get a prescott instead then the lanparty 875 RevB is good (no good with EE CPU's though).

If you are willing to mod, go to XS and check out the hipro5 guide to modding the IC7 MAX3, it really is a masterpiece of modding and makes the board pretty awesome.

Thanks Mav & Master_G.

I already have the Max3 and it is now out of warranty. I had a Prescott 3.4 but it died. No point in replacing the board and with my electronics background the mods look easy enough to do. I just sold 10 3.4 prescotts on ebay and sods law i thought of keeping a spare and did not.:eh:

I've had a 3.4EE aswell, I didn't like it much tbh. Got it to 4.4Ghz but wudnt go any higher, even with BH5 so I gave up and got another FX53 lol.

Best results I got were from my FX53 940, dunno why.

I had an EE which was a good clocker, but sold it after about a week. It was also with a fully volt modded IC7-Max3 ;)

I didn't sell it because there was anything wrong with it, it was just worth too much to keep! I ended up with a 3.4 Prescott under phase, whihc I was happy with until I recently upgraded to a Sonoma with the Ct-479 adaptor.

Hey boardy, what gave the better performance out of the 4.4ghz 478 p4 and the 53FX? Performance as in games and general benches:)

the ic7 max3 was possibly the best mobo iv ever owned - ever ;)

:)

buy the 3.0e 1mb prescot e0, with alittle bit of - cooling 4.4 gig will be easy to achive! at high fsbs.

But the fx v p4 argument has been talked about it before.

does any one have a screen shot of a fx 53/55 runing a 9800pro overclocked.

maybe we can compare some results
