Haf X Assassin.

So today i replaced the factory TIM on my two GTX 680 Lightnings

Can't believe how bad they applied the TIM

Clean and ready for MX-4

I also took the liberty of respraying the GPU reactor covers to black as the blue light ruins my black and green theme, now to somehow fix up the blue LEDS on the PCB.

 That Looks the dogs! The only thing that could improve the looks imo is a different cpu cooler like the Dark rocks, the silver top just sticks out to me :) (maybe even spray it?) Jelly of your rig though :p

I'm actually thinking of something different like a H100 or the upcoming H100i if the performance is better.

Nah, I wouldn't get one after seeing how noisy they are, I'd much rather have all air-cooled pc with a nice heatsink like *cough*mine*cough* :p

Well my friend just changed the fans on his H100 and it was sooo much quieter and the temps were really good.

I'd wait and see what the H100i is like, it's a H100 with a thicker rad basically which would give even better temps.

Anyway, your rig looks amazing, i love it :)

So clean, the cables are playing hide n seek

Great build though, those lightnings look awesome :D

Thanks for the kind words everyone :)

I just got these finally :)

Installing the 4 in tri-channel mode looks kinda wierd.

So i removed the light bar off the first dimm :) Deception :)

Here you can see the first dimm without it's light bar only the heat spreader. just visible.

I also wouldn't recommend the H100. My dad has been through a few of them in his system and the pump makes an annoying ticking noise constantly and the fans it come with are around 40db each at full speed. The first stopped working completely after 1 week of use and the CPU got to over 100c a few times and crashed before we figured out what was going on because the pump was stopping and starting intermittently , the next one had issues with the fan connectors on the waterblock/pump and the third one works (with Noctua fans on it) but the pump still makes a loud ticking noise constantly. I always prefer a really nice air cooler like NH-D14. According to Tom's video the temps for the H100 and NHD14 are very close, and the D14 is much quieter.

Thanks for letting me know.
I've heard that Corsair have fixed the pump issue and there shouldn't be any problems now, i was also planning on changing the fans anyway as a friend did also and he said it made a big difference in temps and noise.

I'm kinda tempted to buy one of the XSPC D5 Rx240 kits, or the Raystorm 750 RS240 kit as the radiator is thinner and would have a better chance of fitting in the case, i've never gone with water though so not sure if i want to chance it.

Yeah, I just have mixed feelings on the h100 because sure the temps are pretty good but they are pretty close to a good air cooler, and by the time you've paid more for the h100 initially and then bought 2 additional fans on the top of that, it just seems to be to cost more than its worth you know? you should have plenty of space in the Haf X for a decent size radiator in the roof, and Im sure some sort of custom loop would outperform a h100 by quite a bit if done right. Another small thing that is purely aesthetic but I just dont like the look of the ribbed tubing they use on the h100! it just looks kind of not great in my opinion, I personally prefer the smooth tubing they use for the H40. Looks wise out of the maintenance free watercooling solutions the Antec Kuhler H20 920 is my personal favorite looks wise just because it has that tubing i like plus a pretty thick single 120 rad and 2 fan, which I also prefer the look of over having one side of the rad bare. All just super picky stuff on my part!

Just my thoughts anyway!

Fair enough, to be honest i'm not fussed about the cost of the extra fans for the H100, i did find an easy mod for the tubing too that just goes over the existing to make it look nicer.

I have store credit with the place i get all my gear from so i think i will just go wit the H100, i don't really need the extra maintenance of a proper loop.

I appreciate your input though :)

no problem
hey, are you running a X58 cpu? (i assume so because of the tri channel?) not sure which cpu you have im sure some the the higher end ones like 990 and such are better but my dad had a 920 in his old build and he was running 2 580s in SLI and getting underwhelming FPS in crysis with everything turned up. Then he switched to a 3930k and rampage iv extreme and the FPS nearly doubled in crysis with the same 2 580s. just something Ive noticed due to personal experience, depending on what x58 cpu you have you may not be getting 100% out of your 680s.

I have no performance issues with my two 680s.
I have a 990X. Everything runs as it should :)
