H2O for my folding rig.

Hey guys, I am just starting out with watercooling. I have been looking into parts and checking the forum and TTL videos for a while now in preperation. I found a good deal on a brand new Bitspower 150 res and a MCP35X pump and bought the parts. I am planning the rest of the parts I think I would need and would like some advice and suggestions.

The water cooling gear I am thinking about is:

Purchased:

Bitspower water tank Z 150 res

Swiftech MCP35X pump

Need to purchase:

EX120

EX240 crossflow

Bitspower CPU Block Summit EF CPU water block

Or

XSPC Raystorm water block

Bitspower Black Freezer VG-NGTX460 VGA water block

Or

XSPC Raystorm VGA water block

7 / 16 hose

Bitspower fittings

1/2 stubby barbs X 10 each

G1/4 45 degree X 4 each

G1/4 90 degree X 4 each

G1 /4 dual male fitting to connect res to pump (not sure if this is good)

Here is a schematic of the loop.

Again, this will be my first water loop any input will be appreciated.

are you sure you can only get a 120mm in the roof? for a 24/7 folding rig i would try and go with 2x 240mm rads. even though its overkill i would want to have lower temps for a folding rig due to it being on 24/7

ive never watercooled but from what ive read and researched thats my advice

if the budget can stretch to get another 240mm i would

would mean you could have slower running fans ( i think) so would be quieter

im not 100% on that so maybe someone whos an expert in watercooling could correct me if im wrong

What case are you running with? I'd definitely say that you should shoot for two EX240s, as it would deliver much more cooling potential, especially for a CPU and GPU folding rig. I'd also suggest you move your loop order to res > pump > 460 > Q66 > rad > rad, as its better to cool water that is actually somewhat hot rather than cooling it before it gets hot. Of course, that's just me.

Regarding water blocks, I'd say XSPC Raystorm, but with your 460, is it reference? It would be better if you could fit a full cover on it rather than a universal block.

For the CPU block I'd go with the XSPC Raystorm, I have one myself and I absolutely love it!

I like it and it is cheaper then the Bitspower block.

depending on the heat, the slimness of the roof 120 i don't think will be enough

as 24/7 without blasting fans. but i dont know what the hotness of overclock is.

the support looks "thin" at best. you gotta have some thick rad support somehwere

for a OC quad and 460.

I am running the CPU at 3 Ghz and the GPU is stock. I could run two EX240's with minor modification. I have seen that the EX series performs very well for a slim rad. My intent is the quiet the system down. right now I have moved the folding rig to the garage beause I cannot stand the noise. I am not interested in super low temps I just want less noise.

How much difference would the it make to switch the loop order? I would guess that there would be very little difference.

This is the kind of feedback I am looking for. If it is not a good idea then so be it. The intent is to get the noise down. Plus if I screw up it is not a big deal to loose some old hardware. Also most of these components can be used for newer hardware.

I doubt youd get a 460 block but sod buying one now. and tbh it really wouldnt be worth it.

You didnt even say WHAT was making the noise, ^^^Theres 3 fans up there in that idea so they will still make more noise than a D14

Thanks for the input. The noise is coming from the Antec 620 and the stock fan on the GTX 460. You are right about spending the money on more points, it is just that I have been curious about getting some first hand experience with watercooling.
