if i just run the small wire from the pump to the Fan port on the motherboard and plug in the Sata power cable can i get away without the chunky USB and fan wires ? and just run them from the PSU to cut down on clutter ? I have 2 NF-F12's so even on full 12v there all but silent .

:)

You mean a H100i right?
What i can tell from the pictures is the fan plug is for mmotherboard CPU fan speed control, while it takes power from the sata port, so thats option one.

The USB cable is for making it work with the Corsair software so you can set your CPU fan speed with that instead.

So i it's either MOBO fan speed control, or USB Corsair software fan speed control and never both at once.

Your manual should say this as well.

I'm sure H100i owners will post here within day tho (got the less advanced H100 myself)

The H100 I use has a molex style connector to power the pump.
I was able to run the fans off 12V from the PSU without any problem.

I was also able to run the fans off "cpu fan" and "cpu opt" with bios fan management disabled (its disabled by default for me). Unplugging fan wire from pump unit did not seem to effect pump operation, but motherboards tend to like something plugged into "cpu fan" to keep them happy.

Finally I know my H100 is working, because temps are 21C idle and 43C under OCCT, incase anyone wonders.

You can plug in the usb connector boot in to windows and set up corsair link however you like it then shut down and unplug it and never have to use it again.
It will then permanently run the setings you set up with out the 'usb link' cable.

I always thought the Fan connection on the H100i was for reporting the Pump, ie, should the pump fail the bios would report a failed fan ?

Yes, its safer to have pump's fan wire connected into "cpu fan". What I'm saying is the pump on mine works fine without it, not that you should unplug it as well.

For yours I'd leave the power and fan cables from pump connected, but you should be OK connecting actual fans to PSU.

Monitor temps in bios to check.
