Guide To Removing IE From Win XP Completely

Why you ask might someone want to do this? The answer is simple. Some people just don't trust IE on their computer with the many loopholes and backdoor entrances that IE leaves wide open for you to get infected with viruses, adware, spyware, the whole bit! With such a great selection of 3rd party browsers that emulate IE's capabilites it's hard to ever want to go back to IE.

There are dangers involved in this process however! I take absolutely no liablity for you fucking up your computer following this guide. Some programs, ones you may not even know about, rely on IE for updates and program functionality. Windows Update being the largest one that you may not think about before removing IE from your computer. Windows Update ONLY works with IE, getting rid of IE means you will have to manually download any security updates and other misc. updates.

Still want to delete Internet Explorer from your computer because FireFox pwns IE? Alright, let's get to it!

To successfully remove IE from your computer in it's entirity you will need to have another system running an OS that's on Fat32 / NTSF that can access the files on the computer in which you want to delete Internet Explorer. The easiest and most common way of doing this is partitioning your hard drive and installing a second copy of Windows on the new partition. Both partitions must be of the same format (ie. FAT32, NTSF). Windows has a built in file protection agent that will not let you delete OS dependent files on the running OS, this is why we need the second partition and OS.

Now, boot into the OS that's OPPOSITE of the one you are trying to delete Internet Explorer from. Example: You have Win98 and Win XP dual booted on your computer and you want to delete IE from Win XP. You want to boot into Win 98.

Once booted into the OS open Windows Explorer and navigate your way to the folder containing Internet Explorers core files on the partition you want to delete them from. This is usually going to be Program Files\Internet Explorer.

Select all of the files in the Internet Explorer directory and permanently delete them.

Now reboot the computer back into the OS that you deleted the IE files from.

Internet Explorer is now permanently gone and is never coming back.

Remember that you may get error messages when Windows loads if any of your programs use IE for any reason, this can not be avoided and is the risk you take when deleting IE permanently.

That's it, very simple and to the point! Good luck and happy deleting!

Yup I can't delete it for the same reason... Some of the sites I visit make me use IE to login, bleh.

Other than that, IE would be gone in a second! That's one shitpile piece of software the whole world could do without.
