GTX580 Matrix Heat Issue

It's been a long time since I visited the much loved OC3D forums, but with being made redundant, I'm trying my hardest to stay out of the computer hardware loop. I have a couple of unfinished project logs that are very much on my To-Do-List.

Unfortunately I'm here in need of help. I feel guilty that I'm asking the OC3D community for help when I haven't contributed so I'll endeavor to make it up to you in the future.

Anyway the problem:

My top GTX 580 Matrix is starting to bend downwards at the unsupported end. I know that this is common with heavy graphics cards but with their being a very tiny gap between the top and bottom card, every mm counts. Currently while playing SWTOR the top card is at 94c and the bottom at 58c with both having the fans at 100%. I know 94c isn't *run around screaming* hot but its getting slowly worse.

To be honest I'm running into the well known problems with:

  • Heavy GPUs
  • Triple Slot GPUs
  • The GPU fans dumping the heat into the case
  • The poor intake design of the 800d

I really don't know what to do...

I was planning to swap the top and bottom card around as the bottom card looks pretty straight so having them the other way around will only aid airflow. But it seems like it may be the PCIe slot that's actually flexing and not the card.

Is there any product I can buy to help support the cards? What other options do I have besides upgrading to a board that has an empty slot between the cards?

Any help, much appreciated

Thanks!

Yeah 800D is not the best for air flow, no front intake

First try to mount just 1(this top card ), and check if temp are ok if it works without SLI, than maybe just put some plastic tube on the top of the bottom card to support the top one, backplate will help you to it. And than try to find some proper tool for this.

Put watercooling tube in between

I thought about placing something in between the two cards to create a bigger gap but that'll put more strain on the bottom card causing that one to start bending too.

This is all very depressing, they we're £400 each and I've never been completely happy with them. I wanted to play in 5760x1080 but didn't take into account that 1.5GB wasn't enough for many games at that res. So I end up playing on one monitor... Something that a single 580 could do against any game in it's sleep.

Seriously considering selling one and putting the money by for a GTX 680. How much do you think I'd get. (I'm not selling here, that's naughty)

Someone cheer me up.

I think that you should get about 310pounds, unless you find some kind of idiot and than you can make some more cash
