GTX 980Ti Backplate

Well apart from the colour of the shroud on the Titan X both Titan X and 980 Ti shrouds are indentical.

Yeah, hence why I was on the hunt for a Titan X shroud, to put on my 980Ti, for a better color theme :)

And since they are identical, I wouldn't have to paint the 980Ti itself :)

I just hope that I can unscrew the top black cover and replace it with the grey one on the 980Ti. And not having to remove the heatsink and all that as well.

Yep you can do this but you will need a 1.5mm and 2mm hex key to do it :)

Drilled it out?... How?... Won't that risk damaging the shroud though?...

Nope!

1.5mm drill bit, slowest speed, drill it out, if you dont have a steady hand, go to your local high school, ask the them if the tech teacher would use the piller drill and drill it out for you, literally 10 minute job, even the local car garage or engineering firm might do it for you if they have a pillar drill.

Thats what i would do personally!

So what just drill the screw untill it cracks in other words?...

This seems like an awful amount of work just to change the shroud colour ;)

Hehe, hence why simply changing shroud is the way I'm trying to go ;)... But hey, I'm Chrazey after all :p

You drill the screw until it has no head, remove the part which it attaches and then use pliers/molegrips to remove the bottom of the screw from the hole its threaded into. Alternatively if you know the thread you could drill out the entire thing at the appropriate tapping dia. and then get a tap to remove all of the debris from the thread.

It's the easiest answer, it will 100% work and if you find someone who knows what they are doing neither part will be damaged. OBV you will need to find another screw but that should be easy.

Also you can re-use the original 980Ti thermal pads as the coolers are identical. Or get new ones but of course thickness is critical.

Thanks JR for your reply.

I'm a bit unsure how to get the body of the screw out though with pliers if I get the head off?...

And that "Alternatively if you know the thread you could drill out the entire thing at the appropriate tapping dia." - Do you mean if I alternatively take a drill the same size as the screw, I can just screw the entire thing down... Or have I missunderstood it?.

Thanks again for all the help guys, really appreciate it! Even though I might be a bit dumb most of the time ^_^

EDIT: Thank you guys for your advices, I drilled the screw a bit and then tested with the allen key and success! I got the screw out! :)

Question guys... can a backplate of a 980 fit a 980Ti, such as this reference one?:
