GTX 790 vs 3 way GTX 780 for Nvidia surround

Hey Everybody!

I was looking to build a new pc when haswell and the gtx 700 series comes out, but I can't decide on what I want to buy. I plan on gaming in Nvidia surround.

So here is my question. ASSUMING the 700 series perform similar to the 600 series would 3 GTX 780s offer a significant fps increase from a GTX 790?

The obvious answer is 3 GTX 780s but I think the scaling from 2 to 3 GPUs is not a significant jump in performance. Maybe only 10-15 fps. What do you guys think?

literally no point asking this question since none of the cards are out yet so we don't really know. However assuming what you say then yes 3 780s is likely to be better than 1 790 due to having an extra GPU

If it's anything like previous generations then the 790 will be 2x underclocked 780's, so the 780's would probably be better but as you said scaling past 2 cards is pretty crap.

Just wait for the cards to come out and decide then

I really do not see why you would want 3 x 780's? Also there 790 will not come out for quite a while after the 780's is released.

I don't think there will be a 790. If there is then it's going to need some seriously hefty cooling.

3 of any graphics card is never worth it because games simply don't support it and it can make performance worse than using two cards.

If one day the consoles end up with 4 graphics cards or 3 graphics cards it might just work but for now you're better off sticking with two.

another thing of note. Do we know yet the pci-e bandwidth limitations on haswell yet??? If its anything like current offerings you may get 2 @ x16 but adding a third card would knock it to x8 x8 x4 but some boards will have like mine an additional chip that allows for more bandwidth.

I think your dealing with too many unknowns, the motherboards, processors and graphics cards have not been released yet. No one has done any final testing of any of them yet to even know what their capable of. If this is really what you want to do , I would wait and read/watch a bunch of reviews before deciding to spend all that money.

agreed and posting what most see as a useless thread because of the above statement. To many unknown variables to even guess so its pointless to ask these kind of questions ......unless your just trying to pad your post count lol
