GTX 780 SLI to GTX 1080

Just been looking around and i cant seem to find a definitive answer to this.
What is the performance difference between SLI 780 to a 1080?

Currently, im running SLI EVGA SC 780, no OC, just WC'd and boost to 1084 max.

Dug through past reviews by OC3D and found this and also looked at TweakTown's 780 SLI vs 980 SLI, here.

A 1080 and SLI 980 is more or less equal in performance, right?
Based on the read articles, 780 SLI vs 980 SLI yields about 19%-26% more performance to the 980s.

Therefore, what i've quickly and roughly calculated is that; going to a 1080 from my 2x780s will give me around 19%-26% more performance.

Does that seem right? I'd just like to confirm

seems about right..
you also gain the benefit across the board vs in apps/games that support sli properly..
Given the choice Personally i would go for a single gpu solution even if i was looking at the same or even slightly lower performance figures because a single gpu as i mentioned has that performance unhindered where as sli can have issues.

A 1080 is not faster than 980 SLi unless SLi isn't working properly or very well.

However I would still take the single card, given SLi has been pretty much dead for ages.

Even in games that support 980 SLI, the 1080 isn't that far behind and with a little more juice it'll end up passing it. 95% of the time, the 1080 will be faster

True. It wouldn't be like that if SLi was still taken seriously by game devs though. The last ten or so big games have not really supported it, especially not on release day.

Shame but oh well, it's more important now than ever to be on a single card. I miss having more than one GPU tbh and cramming it all in my PC. But when I am using a single GPU you know it's bloody bad ! I've not been on a single GPU in years and years.

Looking at a few old synthetic bench threads I run where SLI is near perfect.

780 SLI is a tiny bit faster in DX11 but takes a hit in DX12.

Remember this is from synthethic benches.

The cards used for the above are all overclocked.

You also have to take into account for gaming things like microstutter and whether SLI is supported at all.

Lastly and by no means least the 780 only has 3gb of VRAM which becomes more of a factor when using SLI.

Very good point. Totally forgot about the 3GB vs 8GB difference. That's really just the icing on the cake for this comparison, definitely a 1080 over the 780SLI.
