I'm planning to get a gtx 780 with a 1440p monitor very soon if the 780 ti prices don't drop and I'm wondering if there would be a performance drop using pci-e 2.0 x16 at 1440p with a gtx 780 as opposed to pci-e 3.0 x16?

Thanks ;)

I've got a 780 Ti on PCI gen 2.0 and I'm not seeing any significant hit. My bios is f***** (missing overclocking settings - mainly the multiplier) after an update so I have my CPU at stock until I find a resolution. I've tried flashing an older BIOS version without success.

At stock CPU settings I'm not getting the max performance from my 780 Ti as my results are 5 - 10 fps off what the reviews show. Not a huge problem as I'm getting 60fps+ on all of the games I play at max settings. I believe that once I've resolved my BIOS issue and I overclock my CPU I should gain back some of the lost FPS.

I sometimes wonder if folks do any kind of google search before posting a thread basically 3.0 to 2.0 no appreciable differences. There have even been benchmarks ran using 3.0 2.0 in all x's 2x 4x 8x and 16x showing not a whole helluva lot of performance hits either.

Google was used rather extensively before this post but everywhere produced contradicting evidence so I thought I would ask to get a definitive answer.

Yeah I was considering a 780 ti but based on all of toms reviews, I can't justify the extra £100-150 for the extra frames. Hopefully they go down in price shortly.
