GTX 760SLI will give you more performance than a single GTX 780 but also costs slightly more(at least in the US). The only difference is while you will get a higher FPS you still will have a slightly lower minimum FPS compared to the 780. Also keep in mind the higher you go in resoultion the closer the GTX 780 will perform to the SLI 760s and in some games at 1440p the 780 will be faster(only a handful of games though). The 760 SLI is better performance/price setup at 1080p, at 1440p, 780 is the better overall performer(due to minimum FPS). Compared to a 780;however, i would still recommend a single card over a dual card setup.

Also in the future 780 could be SLI'd for cheap(once newer tech comes out) and give you far better performance.

thanks for your reply im gaming in 1920 x 1080 and i think i will be for quite a while yet as ive got a young family to support as well and the pc is my toy or hobby if you like but i think i mite save some pennies and see if i can get to a 780 once again many thanks for your answer

No problem! If you ever can in the future, sell your 760 to help afford the newer end GPU. Also by the time you have enough money(idk how much you make but just a tip), newer GPUs may be out or on the way so no need to hurry and may end up getting better performance for the same money or less.

errrrr,he already had a 760 in the OP an you are saying that sli'ing is a bad idea?

760 Sli is a cheap upgrade(and WELL worth it)

No offense, but you have given some bad advice lately, why should he have to up to a 780?

1080 with 760 Sli will be a walkover, why the hell are you telling him to ditch and go 780?

I did not say it is a bad idea. He can't afford it right now and later prices will come down so he could sell the 760 he currently has. If he had the money now another 760 would have been an obvious choice. Any midrange card tbh is a walkover for 1080p these days... but OP wanted to know about another 760 or a 780. A single card is always better than 2 weaker cards even if little less performance because later when that real high end card becomes cheap you get an even bigger boost and better investment. If OP wanted a solution now than another 760 is the best option, but he's waiting so mine as well wait for the more powerful cards or newer releases.

While yes you could argue getting the higher end card, do to a better upgrade later. Someone could easily look at that and say then one would never upgrade to SLI. They would be selling their cards for the newest card and waiting for it to become sub-par just to sell that card for the newest. I would agree with the bad advice on this one :P

760 SLI is a much effective upgrade that will offer the most bang for his buck.

If you don't mind driver issues go for the SLI. It will also not run as cool and you might have some cooling issues if your case is not up to scratch. If you mind those things do then go for a single gpu. Technically one card is more future proof but a bigger investment.

-edit- won't he need a new psu as well if he goes SLI?

yeah he may not have much head room i reckon if he does not OC them he will be getting around 500 to 550 watts at gaming maybe a little more benching. where as with a single card like the 780 he wont have to.

Ive seen an evga SC ACX 2gb going for £191 in some stores and you still get black flag to either keep or sell on.

It does also depend if the OP wants to have 2 cards to stare at or 1.

i personally got the 780 with the intention of adding a 2nd when the prices drop but for 1080 this was OVERKILL (add some manly and aggressive tone to that ;) ) im planing to go 1440p.

so to sum up 760 + possible PSU or 780.
Just have a look at deals when you come to buy it if the 780 comes down massively then id go for that and sell the 760. but thats my opinion and in reference to the person saying it was bad advise, this is a forum this is all opinion and the OP has asked for peoples opinions, people will have differant ones so just say id do it for this reason not "point at that guy" and say bad advise.

Hi all and thanks for advice and opinions ive decided i will save up some more hard earned pennies and go for a gtx 780 so i dont have to spend more on a new psu and also as stated before this is a forum and not everybody is going to agree with everyone else and im sorry if i caused an argument that was NOT the intension of this thread :(
i was just asking for advice once again im sorry

no need to apologise mate, disagreements are what make this forum what it is, just maybe it could of been dealt with better. hope you enjoy your new card :) let us know what ya gets outt of it and what brand are you looking at?

Ive narrowed it down to 3 asus gtx 780 direct cu 11 oc and the evga gtx 780 sc with the acx cooler and the gigabyte gtx 780 ghz edition

ive got the asus 760 at the mo and its a great card
the gigabyte one because i really like gigabyte stuff and it look s good
evga cause its got the best overclock outa the box

so dont really know yet lol theres just too many to choose from

I went for the 780 evga card with the stock cooler cos I was only looking at a little oc and cos I wanted a common pcb for when I get the funds to water cool. This is also the reason I chose evga due to their returns on the card policy about 2nd hand cards and about removing the cooler for my own the others are good choices too :) so if you cant decide either flip coins or just go on looks your only gonna get the odd frame diferances as far as im aware. And I apoligise about spelling im doing this on a phone at work atm
