GTX 580 vs. HD 5870

I just got a small question. How big of a difference in terms of performance is it between the GTX 580 and the HD 5870?

I'm wondering because after I get my new case (Lian Li X900B) and get a proper water cooling set-up (Ek kit with a 360mm radiator) I'm going to start looking for a new card or maybe just get a second 5870.

About a third better, to the 580

It's not easy to keep up with the tech when you're going to school and living with your grandmother... I try the best I can, though. Looking for a job too, but jobs are hard to come by around here. Plus, most people get money from the state which is meant to go towards books and such, but the main books are free and you don't use about £130 on writing books each month so most people at my school got MUCH more money then me. I feel like a bum.

The reason I don't get money from the state is because I live with my grandmother and I'm under Child Welfare... FML...

I have moments where i feel like crying but it's not the same, where you look back a few years and think man, that used to be so big, so popular, now no one ever mentions it anymore things that don't really matter, but you miss them. You used to be able to play super mario 64 in the knowledge all your friends would be talking about it the next day. But now games like that aren't as fun as they once were, you can play for the same amount of time you did ten years ago, but afterwards you feel like you wasted your time coz there's nobody to go you completed THAT level? wow! i could never do that! I sometimes roll over the room in my chair to get something out a drawer and look out the window and i'll be playing my favourite game of today, then it hits me, years ago i was playing a game so much less graphicaly engineered than this one but you know what, the charecters were better mapped out considering how little resources they could allocate to it, and you really miss those old games that don't run on modern OSs

I feel you, man. I miss those days too. The so called "next generation" of gaming is basically really bad compared to "last generation" of gaming. I don't really know how I can play all these low quality games like CoD and such.

I'm glad the 5870 is legendary.

I had a new GTS 250 before the 5870 released and waited for the 480 and that is legendary too and is especialy better with todays drivers

Av a look in the Graphics Card forum list to get better temp for reference coolers, the 580 gets hot too

EA invest alot money in development of direct x 11 products and yes there interested in money there business. Though want look at real scum look to activision who just destroy franchises for that tiny bit extra annual revenue.

I don't mind the dx11 games they have made, they're pretty good actually (EA), but it's the shovelware from them on consoles that is so shallow. EA killed command & conquer, for which they will never be forgiven by everyone who has ever played that series. Activision used to be good then went to seed
