GTX 580 SLI to GTX ???

a conumdrum is a brewing. facing this technology advancement, seems
my GTX 580 SLI is old hat now. got some things brewing with inventory
reduction and possibly will switch to X79 (not waiting for haswell) or
a beefy 3770k system. from the reviews the 580 platform is decaying as
i am typing this now. switching to IB, the usage of such cards on a Z77
board is counter-productive. moving to the X79 platform seems to be
logical (for now).

if i were to sell the 580SC SLI and move to IB or X79, what card(s) would
be best to move to? the base 660ti looks inviting on price and closeness
of the 670 (which some have deemed a miss) a $100 bill mainly is the
seperation and minimal performance drop through over-clocking.
jumping on the 670 wagon seems almost 570 medocre and unexplosive.
680, sure.. just aint dropping that kinda coin on a video card. PERIOD.

no offense to the AMD crowd, but my premier does not like the open cl.
its CUDA for refresh and layering copy.

what i am looking for from the forum is "Is there a noted perf noted
beween the 660ti and 670?"
most arent using premier, so a 600MB 600RES 96000x54000 black to white in photoshop color change is how long? 5sec, 12sec, 30sec?

this can give me a reference on the speed im needing to use.

any help is gladly appreciated...

I don't know about what you intend to use the cards for but the 670 still seems to be the best bang for the buck ATM close to 680 performance without the hefty price tag.

I agree, us there any real need for an upgrade? Maybe you do need one but I'd be happy enough with 2 580s? Do you pay much/any games because you didnt mention any in the op.If not maybe you should consider a quadro?

sounds to me like you really already know what ya need lol you mention cuda is what ya need for your work so imho get the best card you can afford (or in the range you want to spend) with the greatest cuda count.

A tad off topic , but what is the difference between a GTX670 and a GTX680 where you guys are at ?
i just bougtht a GTX680 as there was NO GTX670 and the difference wasn't that BIG IIRC...

Keep in mind , i am a deticated Folder (F@H guy) so all the extra i can get is great !

Maybe I'm vain but the GTX 670 with its shorter PCB really is not something I'd want in my rig. If it had the same sized PCB as the GTX 680 I'd have no qualms with putting two in my system. Again just vanity but I do care a lot about how my rig looks otherwise I wouldn't have water cooled and gone with a Black/Red theme with every item I purchased for it.

No -
But - the only 670s we recommend people getting are the KFA2, Gigabyte WF and the Asus DCII. If people are watercooling then the EGVA 670 with the 680 PCB...
ie - the only 670s we ever tell people to get are the ones that have a proper sized PCB.

I haven't ever seen anybody recommend a completely reference 670 on this forum - and nobody should have the need to use reference these days anyway considering the small price difference between reference and non-reference.

When I bought mine you could get the Palit Jetstream for £310, when reference models were only £299.
Bit of a bigger difference now - but to me, it's still worth the extra £30 for the gigabyte windforcee or the KFA2 over reference
