GTX 570 Potential Problem!!! :(

Hi,

Just recently i brought a second GTX 570 to go SLI. My main card is a EVGA GTX 570 SC Reference card and my second card is a EVGA GTX 570 HD well the second card runs at about 75C in game which i am happy with and it is OCed up to the SC clocks of the main card and the first card which is at the stock SC cloks runns AT 91C in game, both GPUs utalise near enough 100% GPU in games so there is no issue there with the cards but i am worried about the 90C of the first card seems way to hot to me

Temp 90C

Fan speed: Auto (Usulay hits about 70%)

Not OCed still at stock SC settings of 794 core

Before i did SLS my card was hitting around 88C load but im assuming the extra 3C is through the other card being so close.

My two cards are next to each other but becasue the HD is quite short most of the primary cards fan is exposed.

Is any one else seeing temps like this?

And is it safe?

the airflow in my case is fine i have an FT02 and the dustfilters are clean makes no difference to load temps if i take the side off. PLEASE HELP ANYONE!

P.S hits theses temps in all games and benchmarks. never seen it go above 92C which it breifly hit once in GTA for like 3 seconds

Test the hot card on its own. If it still gets hot and is new return it. I had that with one of the 460 1GB's I tested dude.

Doesn't the aftermarket cooler on the HD version dump all the hot air in the case?

Could be your SC is then picking up that hot air to try and cool itself.

Just something to think about if it doesn't get hot by itself.

Well it hits around 85C by its self peaking at 88C on occasions in benchmarks

Damn man! I thought those were cool cards. Start shouting at EVGA on the phone or something, this is seriously bad. A brand new card reaching 90 deg, even in SLI is too bloody much. They need to learn how to put their thermal paste on...

TBH i think i have a bigger problem than i first though. just been loking at EVGA Presision after 1 hour on GTA 4 EFLC and my max GPU 1 temp was at 91C at a fan sepped of 81%. Amazingly my HD variant is doing a great job with fan speed set at 47% it hold the card at 75C under 100% load.

You could allways swap the cards round to give the hotter one more breathing room while you decide what to do with it?

Hi. I have similar with the GTX 480. Both are using reference coolers. If 1 of your coolers is leaving the heat in the case that's an issue.

Stuff I tried and recommend:

+Swap the cards round. Hunta recommended that, have you tried it and what's the result? My EVGA SC card runs hotter when in the 1st slot, unlike the other wich is POV. It's OK in the second slot.

+Monitor the voltage of each card and try equal volts on each card, if it works it'll equalise the temps.

+Use a custom fan setting like what I do. Here's my 2 threads:

+This picture shows a foam strip that is built on to many GTX 480's. Maby try a similar material to seal the 2nd cards PCB GPU area from the fan so it doesn't suck the heat:

The temps for the GPU is OK as its threshold is 97 degrees though you need to know the whole card is cool so other components don't get too hot. Getting it cooler will increase life expectancy time. I have aided keeping them cooler with the cutom stuff I did. Does you computer stink your room of hot PCB smell from the high temps? Today my cards GF100's can get very hot without stinking my room with this smell, wich happened before I modded to cool them more.

Good luck

Def' sounds funny mate, I'm running my evga 570 sc at high oc settings and mine sits at around 78-80 playing crysis 2 and bc2 maxed.

The same thing is happening with mine. Just got my EVGA 570 SC, and even without SLI it was going crazy with temps in my cool case. It was like 95 while benching--I was freaking out.

I guess I'll just try to get EVGA to replace it. In the meantime, though, I changed the fan profile with Afterburner and now the card won't ever go past 60 C. It's a lot noisier of course!

Have you decided what you're going to do with yours?

Right. Just swaped the cards around putting the HD variant in the primary slot and the SC referecne in the second slot; here are my results:

Max Under Load:

GPU1 (HD):

Temp: 88C

Fan Speed: 69%

GPU2 (SC)(originaly the problem card):

Temp: 84C

Fan Speed: 62%

Very happy with these resutls, however the HD's fan speed spinning up is abit anoying, yes its quieter than before but it has this wine to it that is a little bit on the frustrating side. its not like a bad wine just the fan spinning up. Cooler temps lower fan speeds, quieter same perfromance. for some reason now as well ic an up the clocks of the HD card to match the SC card in in second slot where as before i had to add votage to do this.

so double thumbs up.

Thank you to all who posted and all the surgestions that came my way.

Problem is back. after longer gaming in GTA 4 i have higher colective temps, now 90C FOR THE FIRST GPU which is the HD variant and 86C for second GPU the fan speeds are lower but still around 75%-80% fan speed on the first card!!!!! whats going on temps if anyting are worse. what should i do. i doubt its the case my FT02 has good airflow. so im stumped. i cant have two bad card they work well and cool on there own so whats going wrong????

mm ok. Can you post a link to a picture of the HD card because I don't know what it is please. I don't know what my cards would be at temperature wise with standard fan setting in GTA 4. With the custom setting at 75% or 70% i did get around 85 degrees C. My cards run about 50% load in most games and scenarios and sometimes 90-99% in Crysis 1 and Metro 2033

Next rig I'll get 2 identicle cards. Seems mixing brands, versions has many issues, I want to see it work properly so that should do it i hope

Stupid question but have you ran an Sli setup on the board before? And what response have Evga given you? They've been great the 1 time I've had an issue.
