GT200 So Far

16th! the day I go back and start my A2s. That's going to be a damn exciting day I may not be able to contain myself!

(there's some sarcasm tied up in that sentence)

Consumer/Press Embargo: June 17th, 2008 (06:00 PST |14:00 GMT)

There is a German site and a French site which have the GTX 280 up priced at 599 and 575 Euro. Direct conversion using XE of the 575 Euro one puts it just over £450.

Some one is going to get fired. ;)

16th still afaik.

Well that`s just splendid aint it!

1 week earlier and I could have had gotten 1 anything around £100 cheaper.

Instead I had to settle for a Q9450 @ about £50/£70 cheaper ;) (darn thing is posted $5 cheaper than I got it already lol)

... having said that, release dates aint always the same either side of the atlantic - and they seem to sell like hot-cakes even when they are.

Strange how there`s no weird selling gimmick thing on the Scan site like there was for just the 8800GT.

Apparenlty the wrong res was used for the Crysis tests.

Any who...

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Preview

Some results and lots of pics of the card naked. :)

Preliminary conclusion

Apparently preliminary testing did not show any jaw-dropping results. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 can be considered as somewhat of a 're-work' of the GeForce 9800 GX2 into a single core package with faster processing capability and more bandwidth.

There is not much performance boost for older games, but for DirectX 10 games like World in Conflict, there is a more noticable improvement over the GeForce 9800 GX2. Not only DirectX 10 titles get a boost when you pick the GeForce GTX 280 over the GeForce 9800 GX2, using the former is more advantageous when you move up to a very high resolution of 2560 x 1600, a resolution found on 30-inch LCDs.

A point to note is abnormal performance in Crysis. We've tried re-benching the GeForce GTX 280 a few times but were greeted with the same results. However during benching, we did notice periodic stutters which were not present while benching the older GeForce 9800 GX2 cards. We are looking into this issue.

We are in the midst of testing Crysis on High settings (and with AA), as well as AA/AF on the other games. Stay tuned, as we work hard to bring you more results from the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB.

1 thing I just noticed on these cards is a spdif socket next to the power connections. (and the Zotac includes a cable which double confirms it)

Proper HDMI connections :D

My 9800GTX has a SPIDF input on it. :)

i love how the XFX Force GTX 280 looks, still i hope that the price drops, becouse els i will have to import this baby from the usa, becouse the cheapest one in my country costs 511 euro.

remember you might have to pay to get in in the country, not sure how it works, but sometime to do with part opf the value of the item? best bet is to wait a while, the ATi v nVidia price war will start soon enough with price slashing certainly on ATI's half inevitable

Anti-climax.

Sweet that it is a single card but it doesn't offer enough of a performance boost to entice me to sell the gx2... However, I do want to see some high res dx10 testing.

OC3D review in T minus 2 hours. DX10 benches included.
