Graphics thread

I was fiddling a bit with AutoCAD and I thought it would be nice to have a graphics thread. Just to post anything in you've been doing, no matter if it's CAD renders, drafting or a gorgeous photo.

This is a render of my product in AutoCAD:

I was practicing bended cilinders, in case you didn't notice ^^

Great stuff. Could do with a bunch of this stuff, I still use the OC3D render that's stickied on the the forum.

Average forum visitor will take a look at this and immediately dismiss it as "a crap drawing I could do better in paint/whatever" - but it's not as simple as that.

Very keen to see what u mold this into.

Check out my gallery in dA (DeviantArt) to see what I've been up to.

Normal 2D photoshopping.

Yeah, I sometimes think that too, the "I could do better" part. The D really was a pain in the back end, somehow my circle didn't want to extrude following the lower left bend and the left line :s

I'm wondering what I could do to improve the design. At some points I think the thickness of the cilinder should be somewhat increased and in the others I feel like they are just fine.

Very nice gallery you've got right there Zak :o Did you make those lightings from scratch?

Which pictures?

I have too many pictures so I don't know which ones you are talking about. :p

Gimme a linky.

From scratch.

That is one of the simplest forms of photoshopping.

Just a bit of experimenting.

And it's lightning.

You should start with the basics of solid drawing then... Try downloading the free version of Google sketchup and make a cube. Try drawing another cube in the cube and then subtracting the two of each other, making a cube with a cubular hole in it. That's basically the trick of 3d drawing: using basic elements to make a more sophisticated one.

Edit: I made the OC3D using another method called 'extrusion' though :+

I know how to use Google Sketchup to the max!

Been practising on it ever since it came out.

But I gave up 'cos I felt bored.

<thread revival>

I have been at the Infratech (large civil engineering gathering) a few days ago and met an Autodesk representative there. He said you could download an educational version of any version of AutoCAD '09 from the autodesk site. Only limitations of the educational version:

- AutoCAD educational watermark in your plots (prints).

- Not allowed to use for commercial goals.

If this is true I'd sure as hell like it, but currently I'm just Googling my back end off and not getting any results :/

EDIT:

Oh have been playing with lighting btw:
