graphics card issue

have a wierd problem with my 550Ti guys
before i start.. yepp, i know, its a 550Ti, nothing special, sadly, i got burgled a couple months ago, my Computer got stolen, So currently gaming on a crappy workstation :D

the card, is a KFA2 550ti, Which plays the games i want, for now, just fine..
BUT.. it cant run a stock clocks?
Stock clocks are
Core: 1000
Shader: 1800
Memory: 1000

As soon as i put any load on the graphics, it artifacts instantly. If im lucky, i can stop whatever is loading the card quickly, and just deal with a "driver stopped responding"..
But most of the time, it locks up and restarts my computer...

I have managed to downclock the card a little, and get it to run stable..
Core: 940
Memory: 950

But still randomly get the odd glitch here and there, where my scren suddenly flickers, and i get the "driver not responding" error.. and then my system carries on fine..
But sometimes my system restarts, and BIOS gives me PCI-E error, Time out error...
This is even without any 3D load on the card..

My computer, like i said, is poo.. But its all ive got right now

2x Xeon E5345 Quad cores (8 cores in total)
16gb DDR2 ECC memory
HP XW-6400 Workstation Motherboard
KFA2 GTX 550Ti 1gb..

the system was an old dual core i had in my shed, but with BIOS update, i got it to run 2x Quad Cores.. and the 550Ti is something my friend just gave me...

cheers

Do you know what temps you are getting on the card as it might just need some better airflow or maybe some new thermal paste

i have replaced the thermal paste recently mate.
Icy Diamond stuff..

Temps are reasonable, concidering not the 'best' cooler in the world..
Reminds you of the crappy stock intel circular coolers haha

sit at about 45-48c idle, dont even hit 70c under load, from playing COD BO2 at 1920x1080 for over an hour...
id say the temps are fine.

cheers

Have you got a different PCI-e slot to try it with? TBH it sounds like the card or the motherboard itself is slowly dying..

Hmm hopefully it hasnt been damaged from an extended period in storage. But sounds like the card has rendered its last frame. R.I.P

I had the 560Ti once but it never idled at 45C that is a little excessive. Are you sure you have replaced the cooler so its correctly seated on the GPU chip?

the card itself still works.. using it right now.. Just cant run it at its stock speeds, have to keep it constantly under clocked slightly..

I can play games, as i play Call of Duty every night, for 3-4 hours straight, Sometimes without a hitch.
But then i can be watching a movie on my computer, and it randomly locks up, restarts, and then goes back to full function.

I render video's with it too, for my moto vlogging channel..
Does that perfectly fine

cheers

its a 550Ti buddy.. so just single fan cooling, No heatsink shroud, just a crappy heatsink and a fan..
i though the idle temps are pretty good concidering its in a case that doesnt have front intake fans for cool air..
its in the stock HP XW-6400 Workstation case...

Aswell as being populated with two CPU coolers, 5 HDD's, and 2 optical drives..
I didnt think that idle temps were too bad, concidering..

ive had the card upto 85c without issue, with heaven benchmark stressing it...

What psu are you running as you might not have enough juice to run everything and the same thing applies if it's a bit old as it might have some degradation

Its the standard 500w PSU that came with the computer mate.

It was originally, a "off the shelf" computer... Some centuries ago :D
In that case I'd say it's suffered some degradation and you aren't getting enough juice to run your card properly I'd say if you can grab another PSU and see if your card runs properly just hope that nothing has been damaged using the old one in the mean time

Unfortunately, i have none spare to test mate..
Im not "too worried", as this computer is just a thing to get me through the rough times.
As soon as money picks up, or i manage to sell my motocross bike, I will be building another rig :D
it just gets a little annoying, so i thought id see whats up..
