Graphics Card High Temps

have ya messed about with the fan speeds?? MSI's Afterburner allows you to set a profile for speeds at different temps it might help.

Maybe a good cleaning is in order? I remember my old PC looked dust free, then a disassemble of my graphics card showed otherwise; a nice 20c drop, no joke.

I literally JUST bought it. My computer is spotless.

I wish the browser didn't need to be open with BF3... it uses a lot of resources. Same with Origin. But that wouldn't effect my GPU... So I still don't get why the temps are so high.

They're 86max now.

my 570 runs 66c with 65% fan speed at 60 she becomes audible but its not bad.... try that fan speed change yet???

room temp. Typical scenario in these weather conditions is the central heating turns on, the PC blows hot air, the enclosed gaming room temperature rises quite alot thus creating a rise in overall temperature making the PC hotter

I think it has to be the partly due to the silicon lottery, and the stress the card is taking from different games, I have a GTX580 and when playing Call of duty Black ops it never goes above 80 degrees but as soon as I play Medal of Honor, Battlefield 2 or 3 it can get into the 90's very easily and the fan is going like a leaf blower. To get my temps down I have changed the fan profile in MSI Afterburner to reduce temps sooner but that equals higher fan speed and more noise.

Hi,

I'd be uncomfortable with temps in excess of 80c myself, though they're not considered dangerous until you get into the mid to high 90's. Still, that's a lot of heat.

In my experience the default nVidia fan profiles are biased towards keeping the noise down more than the heat. I always set up a simple fan profile in Afterburner where, from 40c, the fan % matches the temperature in c. So, at 50c my fans are at 50% etc. This does usually mean that my temps rarely get above 60c or so and, for my cards at least, 60% fan speed isn't too noisy. My Machine IS on the floor however, if I'd been on my desk right next to me possibly I'd not be so happy with the noise.

Another consideration of course is to be aware of where your GPU gets its air from. For me it's via a nice cool air feed from the main front 140mm fan. I also have an additional fan below this, angled up at 45 degrees, to ensure my upper card (570 SLI) gets what it needs.

Finally, while my upper card vents mostly externally, my lower card has a different design so vents much of it's heat internally. To stop my 2nd (and lower) card heating the card above it, as well as the whole inside of the case, I have a side fan set to extract directly over the cards. This works well to keep things balanced.

I recommened experimenting with fan profiles in afterburner to get the best heat/noise balance for your preferences while ensuring good air flow to the card as well as good extraction from it if needed.

Best of luck and do post back how you get on.

Cheers,

Scoob.

I turned the fans up, not too loud. The only thing is with the 590, it blows out both ends. So the card blows air back at my intake fan. It's the dumbest card design ever.

+85% for gaming standard is too extreme, i dare not guess how short 'a time the fan will live at that speed

sorry! #

the problem isn't bad Cyanide i bet a simple logical explination can be found, and the GF110 is the best, you can run it at 97 C 24/7 i rekon it'll do its job. The GF100's I have had a good run at 105-108 degrees and no sweat in Metro 2033, limit reccommendation is 105 C. If your processors were budget/low end I'd think it's too risky

Invest in an expensive high-spec fans or 2 for you chassis to get the air in and out asap

oh hehe <3, bro my gtx 590s hit 85c at times, but in intense 3 screen gaming are around 80. I have two, its not that bad, they will run hot as there are two gpus crammed into one. Its normal man, They are ment to operate a bit on the hot side, i looked into this myself. BUT there are some things you can do to prevent things. As removing the shroud and replacing the thermal compound with much better, i will be doing that shortly and showing a comparisn between the two myself. But again, nothing to be anything alarmed about
