GPU throttling under TEC`s

Am kicking around an idea for TECing my 6600GT (not high-end, I know) and have seen that there are problems with throttling below 25celcius as the card thinks its too hot.

Some people think the throttle temperature is decided by: core temperature maximum-100 degrees. My core threshold is set at 145 at the mo (which I cant change), which is higher than my card idle temps on a cold day (hopefully not gonna have many of them for a while)

Anyway: the point/ the question.... does anyone know how true these points are? Are there any BOIS hacks I could do to change the threshold temperature to...say...90celcius (90-100= -10) (much better) Failing that, If I could change the voltages to my core and memory, that would keep temperatures up a bit and prob lift the bar for overclocks...does anyone know any tricks for volt-modding a 6600GT AGP?

The TEC is just an idea for a spare watercooling setup I got, but the BIOS hacks and volt-mods i`m interested in anyway.

Thanks a lot,

Kenny :)

I read somewhere that Throttling is based on clock setting versus Temps - there are defaults det in teh VGA BIOS for this.

The easiest way around this is to force the desired clock speed in the BIOS, this prevents throttling and maximises your overclock. I think rivatuner might have some setting in it for increasing the throttling threashold on 6600's (not 100% sure though)

On my GT's I BIOS lock them to run 448/1170 24/7 but for benchies I push that up to 455/1200.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mav..I got Riva kicking around somewhere... will have a look when I got some time to do stuff instead of just think about it! :)

I just noticed that in my display properties that under temperature it says "core slowdown threshold" not "core shutdown temperature" as I thought before... time for an eyetest!

Having the evening away from the books so will try Riva and see what happens :)

Dfi Nf4 Sli-dr Beeeeeep Beep Beep???

My DFI seems to be playing up again.

Enabled on board speaker, and when I start up I get a long beep followed by two short beeps, can't find my manual - anyone know what this means??

Cheers

Dunno - through the bad times and the good I have been Nvidia thru and thru, although I would have thought that if it gets too hot then there willbe some sort of throttling used.
