Hello

I've been given an "old" dell and I've decided on using it as a media pc. Its quiet and up to the job

Core 2 duo E4300, 2gb of ram. 500gb Hdd

Just fitted a tv tuner too.

So I need a graphics card for HDMI/DVI connection. Did try to fit my 8800gt but its wayyy too big and the current psu is only a 300w. Now I need to decide whether I wanna be able to play games on it. Would be good I suppose with a 360 controller etc.

I'll use my main pc for the proper high end games stuff, the media pc just needs to be able to cope with 1080p resolution (for bluray) and games such as flatout etc. (basically multiplayer ones or ones supporting controllers)

Needs to be quiet too, being a media pc. Guessing the no name 300w psu needs to go too? Thats for another day lol

That 300w PSU is going to hold you back from getting a good GPU i'd just get rid of it and get yourself a 560.

AMD 6670 - low power, doesn't require an additional power connection. Will play most games on medium settings and can be had for about 60-70 quid. XFX do a single slot version that I have my eye on for a low power gaming cube.

Don't forget this is for 1080p as well, running movies is easy but games at a decent frame rate is another thing. There aren't many good cards that run on 300W or less and i'd say a 550ti or 5770 would be the best card for the situation but he would definietly need a better PSU.

Ignoring the psu (lets pretend i've swapped my 600w gamextreme psu (ocz) or gotten a corsair 500w jobby. )

Liking the suggestions so far. HDMI is the main thing. Low noise also. Also as a bonus would be good to perform as a LAN-ing pc too being small and lightweight. So some games proficiency is cool

I know it says you need a 400w PSU but if you look at the consumption of the card its 65W. A pci-e slot will only deliver a maximum of 75W. I am going to try and run one of these with a 2100 off a pico psu 160xt.

In that case mate I yield to your better knowledge on the subject

In that case I'd be asking you how much you want to spend because the 500W alone brings you up to 560TI/6950 territory.

Just don't try any heavy overclocking

get a old 4350 for £15 or so, will do the job for gaming not so much but for a lone media pc it is silent ( no fan ) and has hdmi connection i think

Will keep an eye out on ebay

Guessing it won't be happy @ 1080p games tho no matter how old they are

edit:

also as to how much, this is kinda supposed to be a budget build but nothin tempts me more than being able to play flatout ultimate carnage full settings in 1080p
