GPU Back plate

Hello. I am installing an EK water block onto a Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti Extreme. I have been told that I can not use the stock back plate with the EK water block. Though I do not understand why because they do not seem to interact with one another. I was told, however, that I did not have to use a back plate if I did not choose to purchase an EK back plate. Can I leave the back plate off or will it cause heating issues, since the stock back plate did provide thermal pads and the copper heat sink. Thanks for the future replies.

You don't need a backplate. It is mostly for aesthetics these days. And "may" reduce your temp by 1C. I don't use a backplate on mine because I am weird in a way that I like seeing the 1080ti PCB chips on the back :D

You cant use default backplate because it has to be literally screwed to the pcb re using the reference design screw holes. You cant just "rest" the pcb on your GPU. it needs to be fixed.
