I just bought a new computer. It is a dell optiplex 755 with windows 7 professional 64 bit. It has 4gb of ram and a intel core 2 duo 2.93 ghz processor. It has integrated graphics but i plan on adding a nvidia graphics card. I want to play games like rust, gmod, dayz, and arma. Would this computer be good for that kind of stuff?

I mean core 2 duo. I was talking to a guy over the phone and he said it should run all this stuff smoothly but i wanted to be sure. Not looking for a lecture. I want a serious yes or no with a explanation.

core 2 duo was good for gaming 5 years ago when the main resolution was 1024x768 and everyone was playing counter strike 1.6, if buying today, its completely and utterly obsolete, I would've gone for atleast a 3rd gen i3, pretty cheap and a 1000x better than core 2 duo's, probably it has DDR2 ram, which is also obsolete as we're already getting into DDR4, cooling on dell mainstream cases is crap.
If you're getting a new gpu, I would usually suggest to get the most expensive one you can afford, in this world, usually more expensive = better, but in your case it would be useless to go beyond a 750ti at the maximum.
and NO, by todays standards, the pc you just bought is not good, sorry to break it to you.

Core2 Duo will struggle with Arma and DayZ. Rust and Gmod will be fine. Consider amd gpus as well, if it has a PCI slot that is. I don't think those Dells do.

What if he is on a very tight budget and he got it for a good price. OP, how much did it cost you?
If he is not going to spend much on a gpu, theres not going to be a point in getting better cpu.
But to anyone out there wanting to build low end gaming pc, go for the non-discontiniued intel i3's.
My friend manages to play battlefield 3 at about 30-40 fps with his 2.66ghz core 2 duo (oc @3ghz) and a low-mid end amd 6xxx gpu.

IMO if you already own it and you're happy with it, you can happily keep and I won't suggest anyone to change it just cause its old unless they need it. But I would never suggest anyone to buy at this point...

the motherboard will probably have some limited cpu upgrade options, but im 100% sure it does not allow overclocking, because my school has that pc and theres no overclocking options in the bios (yup me and my friends tried overclocking school computers

I guess its good at that price point. tbh yes it is an old chip, but you would be suprised at what it can still do. As i said my friend has a similar cpu and plays battlefield 3 smoothly paired with a low-mid end gpu.
If you want to play games you need a dedicated gpu, even a $30 gpu will be a lot better than the integrated

yes, all of them, they are not super cpu intensive games. but remember, you need to get a dedicated gpu first!, i doubt that the onboard graphics will run any of these games playable
