Good G-Sync Monitor ?

Dicehunter

Resident Newb
As I've moved to Nvidia I'm after getting a G-Sync monitor, Roughly got a budget of £600.

I was looking at the Swift even though I went through a total of 5 each with defects but I'm wondering if Asus may have moved to a different panel supplier other than AU Optronics or have a slightly updated panel from AUO inside ? If so then I might get another one as it seems the panel AUO use in the Swift *AUO M270Q002* is highly susceptible to faults but the panel inside the BenQ XL2730Z which is also from AUO is a newer model of the Swifts panel with the same tech capabilities and having done a lot of reading has a lot less people complaining about faults.

Anyway, Any suggestions are welcome :)

The swift was the one I was considering as well, are they that faulty? Even when taken into account that Asus probably sold a lot if them so there are more customers to experience faults?

Maybe if you can wait a little longer you can get the asus PG279Q, it's a Swift but with an IPS panel and 160Hz gsync module. Not sure who will be the manufacturer of the panels themselves though

We need a mythbusters team or SNOPES site for this. Was it bad or just got a bad rep.

How many were sold? How many were RMA'd, For what reasons? and how does that compare to any other type of displays return rates etc.

Don't think we'll ever get a straight answer. People are pretty passionately either for or against them. I fear it will be like the ATI of the past - the rumours, old wives tales and misinformation seem to have an indefinite lifespan.

At a guess - I'd say any cutting edge tech would have higher failure rates and teething issues over established, mature technologies. I'm not saying they were sending untested or unfinished products out. Maybe at that end of the market though people quite rightly have extremely high expectations.

It's gonna cost about 1300 Euro...
Ouch!! But 160hz G Sync 1440 27" would be nearly worth it.

Make it 34" and 21:9 and I'd go there. Mind you display port would max out before it got near it's peak performance I think at 3440*1440 res.

Don't get fooled by the 165 Hz G-Sync hype. According to Sweclockers (as I wrote in another thread), the PG279Q actually runs best at 120 Hz (input lag). It's too expensive in my opinion.

I just like to say on the record, I was using 12 Swifts over a period of 4 days and none of them had any issues, not a single dead pixel, nothing!

Exactly. The number of people with zero issues is probably incredibly high. They just tend to not jump on forums to praise them. And distribution being what it is - if there is one bad batch then you could easily end up with two duds if you return the first to the place of purchase. Could happen with GPUs, AIO's or anything. Anyways. Getting off topic. Acer XR34 has my vote right now. Just waiting on availability and some reviews. Altho its larger than the 27 requested in the o.p.

Ive got the Acer IPS on my racing rig

Would be the XR34 Tom?

I like the sound of that! Maybe you do too, Dicehunter?

I can buy the swift for 730,00 Euro, plus 50,00 for pixel warranty thingy which let's me return it for a single dead (sub)pixel for 14 days, and carries over to the replacement so you can keep going until you have got a good one.

Hard to argue at £500 IMO, I was perfectly happy to pay 7, and worst case they take it back for free.

OcUK Exclusive Service: Warranty regarding dead pixels falls under ISO rules and as such dead pixels if very few are not an actual fault. But at OcUK we value our customers especially when spending such a large amount of money on what is a flagship gaming monitor. As such even if you only have 1 dead/stuck pixel and it has not gone after 3 days, we will class the monitor as faulty and exchange it for you at no cost to you. This service is exclusive at OcUK for Asus ROG Swift ONLY or other qualifying monitors! (Valid for 28 days from purchase)!

Acer Predator XB270HU V2 (make sure its the V2 as the originals had a lot of light bleed issues) is a good bet, not tried one myself, but they have reviewed really well.

Ouch for real, didn't know that yet.

Apart from my one bright pixel I'm very pleased with my Swift. It doesn't show when gaming so I'm inclined the just say... Meh I'll live with it. Anyway Dice I know you won't even point at a Swift anymore though ;D

Maybe an Acer Predator is worth looking at?

EDIT: darn you killbane I was about to say that!

See I keep hearing of people not having any dead/stuck pixels but everyone I know personally has got dead or stuck pixels and £550 is a lot to gamble.

I've heard good things about the Acer but it's the glossy stand and bezels that put me off.

That thing will cost a lot more than £550 :(

Yep that happened to me 5 times in a row with worse but my point is I want 1 but just very cautious as I don't want the endless RMA cycle again.

It's the worst case scenario that's worrying though and very likely to happen, I might wait for BenQ to release a G-Sync 1440P monitor as they are using a newer version of the AUO panel inside the Freesync monitor I'm using and it's had far less complaints than the Swifts panel.
