Good deals

Hi,

Over the the last few days I've been listing a fair few things on places like Ebay and Gumtree, as things like cases aren't always easy to shift considering postage cost, so I decided to do it locally as well.

Thought I might as well look to see if there were any decent things going, and found a couple of things locally so thought I'd look into things more.

As I'm at uni, it's been my intention for the last few weeks to downsize my rig. My Switch 810 is far too big really to be transporting to and from uni regularly, so I wanted something ITX/MATX instead.

Anyway, this morning, I came across a listing on Gumtree for a PC. Unlike the usual crap you get on there which is just Packard Bell PCs from 2006 with Dual Core AMD processors, running off onboard graphics and being listed as high spec gaming PCs...I found something actually worth looking into more.
The listing was for a full PC, 2600k, Maximus V Gene, 8gb Crucial Ballistix, 1TB Hard drive, and a 500w PSU, Xigmatek Thors Hammer, all in a Fractal Arc Mini - and the seller was wanting £350 for it.
Managed to negotiate it down to £300 in the end, and just got back from collecting it - only about 5 miles from where I lived too.

Now, I think that was a great deal on my part - the processor and motherboard alone are nearly worth £300, and it's all in pretty much perfect condition.

So - you lot got any similarly good deals recently?

Both are non-computing deals. Brand new Seat Mii for £1000 less than the recommended best price on the market (beating what car magazines and brokers could offer)and the two Batman Arkham games for £7.50.

That is more than a good deal. I wonder why it was priced so low to begin with.

I got the impression they were a little strapped for cash and it was listed as a quick sale. Originally listed at £350, day later down to £325...
I offered £300, he said only if I collected it today. He was even concerned about me getting there as early as I could today, so I'm not entirely sure.

Either way, he had it running when I was there - all seemed fine. Showed me idle temps put a video on (even though in his mind he thought the video would stress the PC as he then said, look the temperatures don't even rise when playing the video...).
I've built a proper system in it now - without the terrible PSU that weighs around 50 grams so I'll get it up and running and see what's what

Yeah, that is the most likely explanation. What are you going to do with the system, if you don't mind me asking?

Well, me and the Switch weren't really getting along

It was just too big really. I haven't played a game in about 5 months now, so decided it was pointless having anything as powerful as a 670, and certainly not watercooled, so I've sold the Switch and was planning to get something smaller anyway - like a 350D.
At the same time, I've been building a Prodigy build, to take to uni easier so that's all set up now - 3570k, P8Z77-i Deluxe, 7850 etc... But I wanted something else too so I can have something permanently at home, and permanently at uni too. Not sure which of these is going where at the moment though...

Not completely decided what I'll be doing with it all though. Someone's asked me to build them a PC - and when that happens I usually take the opportunity to sell off my parts and upgrade haha. So I'll most likely sell the 2600k, and drop to a 3570k or something (depending on how this 2600k overclocks - it has been lapped after all). So yeah, planning on keeping it, but some parts may be swapped around.
I do need to get a new graphics card for one of them. Currently have identical 7850s in both, but one of those is a friend of mine's, so I'm going to have to buy my own at some point.

It was yeah - and because of the cheapo plastic on the outside you had to be really careful in struggling to carry it haha.
Also my bay res let air into the loop with any slight knock if the system was on. Was just more effort than it was worth as I wasn't using it to its full potential...

...Although now I currently have an i5, 3 i7s and an i3 in my room which are proving harder than I thought they would be to shift. Oh well!

To bump this slightly - I may have a 3960X and a GTX690 coming my way
