Going from a 8350 AMD to a intel 4790k

been thinking about it a while so was wondering a intel 4790k how does it compare the 8350 mostly for games and making the odd youtube video via vegas pro 12

Also i know the z97 is still pretty new but what are the chances of it being able to be used for a hackintosh ?

Most games(nearly all) will perform better on the 4790k. Very few games can take advantage of the 8 cores on the 8350.

Hackintosh is a totall different subject though.. Gigabyte boards seem to support it better than anyone else.

The main reason i think the 8350 falls quite far behind the 4790k in games is because of its very weak cores.
In almost all games a 4 core 4790k at 4ghz will beat overclocked 8 core amd 8350 at 5ghz

when it comes down to video/3d rendering theres not as much gap as with games but the intel will still do better

z97 is as good for hackingtosh as z87, go for a gigabyte board

Depends on the game as to how much/any boost in fps you get. Battlefield the 8350 can be as fast/faster depending on graphics setup for example. DayZ the i7 will be miles ahead.

Feronix is your man when it comes to Hackintosh stuff as he's building one currently.

Im installing OS X on my pc tomorrow too :) Tried it a week ago but had some issues installing with old amd phenom x3, and after i got it to work i had kernel panics because of this.
But now i have a h61 1150 gigabyte and intel cpu so it should go much smoother

If i decide to do NON-3D stuff on os x, then i will install yasmine or marevicks because it will work 100% with my intel hd 3000

If i decide to do 3D stuff on os x, then i will install lion because it will work 100% with my gtx 570

Tomorrow/ or in 2 days :)

Ooooh nice, Do you know if it would work with the Z97 platform and a 780 Ti ? i.e all the gear in my sig :)

I've heard from everyone who's tried OSX that the sound API is worlds better than that of windows.

On a separate note I'd personally keep the 8350 as you will see benefits in benchmarks but to your eyes in gaming you will see diddly squat.

The difference between an AMD FX and Intel i5/i7 is subjective and totally done to death in several forums. I myself find I don't really notice a difference between my friend's i7-3770k overclocked to 4.5GHz and my own FX-8350 at stock in games, but that's me. ;)

For a Hackintosh, you'll be better off with Intel. I gather you've to jump through a few hoops if you want to get stuff up and running on an AMD CPU.

I had thought about doing this swap for a bit now mainly because I want to do a matx or itx build and those boards just dont exist for a 8350 that I've found. I really just can't get myself to spend the money because I'm perfectly fine with how my 8350 performs.
