GOG Lays Off "around a Dozen" Staff Amid Reports of Financial Issues

And none of them are in financial trouble, just that the guys in suits have found out that games make money as well.

Well, Crytek were in financial trouble. :D Quite mismanaged iirc, but I don't think GOG should have any issues of that caliber. Like aren't they a subsidy of CDPR?

owned by them but perhaps they operate independant. Its very vague what the status is with GoG so we will have to see how the week pans out. This is sure gonna be a hot topic on all the tech media sites.

Off topic, but I really want to see Crytek make a Crysis remaster. That game really needs it, especially that one level where you fly the VTOL. Ruins systems even today.

Considering they made over a $1 billion I'd say probably not.

Could be that they want to sell it off or leave it behind. I see GoG as a store front for Nostalgic games only.

Its great that its DRM free but then... its only a minor % of gamers who b*tch and moan about that. I couldn't care less, about it. The more recent games available can be obtained from other store at prices on equal level. So I do wonder where their income is.

Witcher 3 as amazing as it is, probably sells better on Steam or Origin (i think i saw it there).

GoG is a great store front but its popularity is fleeting for sure.

(All numbers in PLN, about 0.25 USD)
They made about $60K in profits last year, their peak was about $90K in profits in 2015,
while the Polish government has dished out a whopping $7million for CDPR's development of REDengine 4/CP2077, presumably about 15-20% of its production cost going from their comments, and total cost for marketing+release would be far greater, I can't see them being in an amazing financial situation until the game launches at least, their assets have grown alot but never reached $0.25million so it's not like they're sitting on major cash reserves in game terms.
