GFX card vs web time opening

Hi.

My friend said that with better(faster) graphics card websites will open quicker.

e.g I7920@4 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Same Mobo and same HDD with GTX480 web will open faster than same PC with GTX280 card.

I said it will be no different at all.

Who's right?

i thought hardware acceleration was only on flash etc? not the browser itself?

im guessing in the newer updated browsers, feature hardware acceleration in all aspects.

1. Performance – by utilizing power of graphics card rendering would become very quick.

2. Zoomed browsing – zooming in Internet Explorer 9 has also been hardware-accelerated.

3. Hardware-accelerated HTML5 video – With IE9, viewing video embedded in HTML page would be quicker as well. In a demo rival browsers were running processor for playing a single HD video, while the IE9 played two 720p HD videos and only used 30% of the CPU on a modest netbook.

4. Image and color quality -- Decoders are not only an estimated 30% faster than what was available in IE8, but WIC can now also deal with embedded color profiles in images, specifically ICC v2 and v4 profiles.

5. Text quality and performance – IE9 uses the GPU (via DirectWrite) to do text output – up to twice as fast as IE8, and with higher quality. Text can be smoothly animated in IE9, and sub-pixel positioning is a more faithful representation of the Web designer’s intent.

6. High-quality graphics printing – IE9 is capable of converting web content into the native XPS format supported both by Vista and Windows 7, when a print command is made.

The 480 will be faster by 0.0000000001 ms per page (approx).

Seriously, over a certain level of graphic card, you'll not notice a difference with web pages.

An Intel X3100 is more than enough.

in all reality the time it takes to open ur web browser (pretty sure this is what ya mean) is more based on processor and hdd performance than vid card. While the vc has some to do with it imho its more related to the other. I noticed a vast improvement in browser opening with a SSD versus a hdd and with my current Hybrid setup its not as fast as the SSD but faster than the hdd alone or in raid.
