I am thinking of swapping my old motherboard for a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58. My motherboard i have just now came with a pre built system from pc world and theres no info on my board. All i know is its acer. So if i swap my boards will i need a new operating system because i dont know if my vista x64 is oem or not and if i do will a Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrade) Operating System, Retail work?

might wanna check everything out lol I was going to upgrade a mono from a dell rig not long ago so my daughter would have a comp to play with as shes getting old enough to learn about computers. Anywho I couldnt just change the mobo due to the case being dell all the mobo connectors are specific to dell so I had to change cases as well. Something to look at. But if it does change over for you there is no reason that software shouldnt work out ok for you.

I have replaced nearly everything from this acer pc except from the mobo ram and cpu the only thing i plan on keeping in is the cpu a core i7 920.

If you still have the license sticker for the os install you can phone Ms and reactivate the install if you need to, if not you will need a new windows too.
