GeForce GTX 295 overclocking

"3) Are there any modified air cooling products that can be bought for the GTX295 that will actually give a better overclocking envelope?"

Does anyone have any input on this?

I've had my GTX295 for a week or so now, the stock cooling is not very good, to put it lightly.

And by the way, FPS in Crysis go as low as 30 FPS, at 1280x1024, 0x AA/AF, High details, Windows Vista, with the GTX295 coupled to a Core i7 920 and 6 GiB Corsair Dominator RAM.

Had a quick look for an alternative air cooler for a 295 for you but didn't have much luck I'm afraid, I'd imagine the dual card setup of the card must be pretty tricky to air cool anyway. I assume its the dual card version you have and not the new one (which I don't think's been released yet anyway) with both GPUs on 1 PCB? If you are looking to push your card further without the stock cooler all I can see are watercooling options, unless anyone else has had better luck?

To be honest though I'm not sure why you're getting so hung up about frame rates, I never really notice lag until it drops beneath 25fps so anything above that's fine. Unless of course you're purely trying to get the fastest speed possible in Crysis just for the hell of it in which case good luck to you but it's going to set you back a hell of a lot of cash!

Crysis is pretty CPU dependant. What speed is that core i7 running at?

And no, I think it's either stock or water cooling for the gtx295

I recently didn't overclock it, but now I am overclocking it.

4.2 GHz (with Asus P6T Deluxe V2) -- my 3DMark (2006) score went from 17894 to 26118 points and I'm getting 150 FPS in Crysis at places I previously got around 100-110.

I haven't gotten around to the same places where I dropped as low as 30 yet though, so I'm not sure what I will get in those places.

The reason why it was so low is because the CPU clock was holding your card back. The faster your CPU clock, the more your graphics card can render in the same time frame. I doubt you will get to as low as 30FPS now.

What software do I need to overclock my GTX295?

I'm a GNU/Linux user and I only have a copy of Windows at all to play a few games, so please forgive my ignorance on Windows applications -- I've tried "Rivatuner" and "Powerstrip", both to no avail.

If rivatuner fails, try nVidia performance tuner (or something like that). Everything failed for my 9650M GT but that worked.

Sadly, the link to this file is very well hidden in the nVidia site and I can't seem to find it anymore :s
