Gaming Laptop memory upgrade

Where do you get your information from? My Alienware m17x and most other gaming laptops have Four slots for ram.

really? i have never seen a laptop with 4 slots

oops sorry just realised they are under the keyboard but i personally wouldnt be comfortable going under the keyboard and everything

Either one is a viable option Diggy.

This is just me personally, but I absolutely can not stand mixing RAM brands. In most cases it's perfectly acceptable as if there are any differences in timing etc, the machine will default to the slowest timings etc and run all sticks at that speed.

There's just something nice about knowing all of your memory is exactly the same though, I guess I'm OCD like that, haha.

If it were me I'd go with the 8gb kit or 2 of the 4gb kits and just take the other memory out completely. DDR3 is so dirt-cheap it's worthwhile in my opinion to make it all match.

I was gonna do that but, I found out that ALienware uses Kingston's Plug and Play Hyper X version's of those I posted links too XD Seems like Alienware finally learned that Quality parts mean something. But I was gonna just take them out anyway. I just need to know, which upgrade option would be better.

In that case I'd go with the 2x4 kit as it leaves you room to expand further in the future if you ever want to. That is if its expandable past 8gb, which I'm sure it is if it has 4 slots.
