Gaming in Safe Mode?

is it possible to play games in safe mode ?

since my cod4 is only getting a crap 60fps :( (did get it upto 300fps without tripple buffering, but had lag spikes more often) and i need to free up some RAM (not going to buy some as im going to sell my rig and get a new one -any offers? - so i need a quick fix)

Safe mode = no real drivers. So no real usage of the GPU.

Its possible to play but will be worse.

I expect.

^ what Ham said.

No sound drivers

No network drivers

No display drivers

No chance of gaming tbh.

If it used to be fast then you have seriously clogged up your OS.

Try doing some cleaning.. getting rid of unused apps, clean the registry, close unneed programs.

Use Ccleaner to clean temp files and registry.

All helps.

perhaps u can try changing ur drivers (uninstall, driver clean, install new)

ermmm

format and new windows install?

i've found running games the CoD series in safe mode seems to exaggerate bugs and lag spikes, but as you said it runs with a faster frame rate. however surely this is down to the GPU not being fully used anyway (hence the mini out resolution ;))

lol, unless you load the GPU drivers in safe mode the GPU won't be used. In fact I think you wouldn't even scratch the surface. So it surprises me how you got CoD to run? :o

my pc is as clean as a whistle :) everyday it gets cleaned by ccleaner and disk defragged on both partitions (OS and gaming) although it just seems it is a little bit more sluggish :(

although, i think i will upgrade the rig anyway as i like new stuff, and i do need some half decent gaming components instead of low stuff xD

anyone tried the 9600gt xD ?

il try running them when i get home from my mates and see what i get from my system xD

but still, my system is a low end gaming system, so it needs to be updated to a half decent air cooled one :)

My Oblivion is running slow as well, I know the solution is a reinstall, windows really needs it every so often no matter how much cleaning you do, I'm putting it off as long as possible though, it's a real headache.

You can enable drivers to be loaded within safe mode, also services can also be loaded. The default safe mode will NOT allow you to run any type of DIRECTX game or anything requiring drivers.

GOOD 'OL DOS!

Just reading through this thread again - I have just realised what conspicuousj means by running in safe mode.

He is running CoD in safe mode.. not Windows. :p

Running CoD in safe mode will result in better performance as it turns everything to low. ;)
