looking to buy g skill 2x4gb cas7 1333mhz 1.5v just wounderded if it would be possible to overclock 2 1600mhz with out changing timings

should be easy enough from some of what I have seen in the differences between 1333 and 1600. Is that the 1600 has the same timings in most cases but 1.6 or 1.65 volts. Which is a very safe voltage for most memory.

It might but no one can say if any specific kit will or wont reach a speed at anything over what its rated for, even slackening the timings to c9 might not alow much more mhz.

An example of this is i had a 2x1gb kit of ocz platinum ddr2 c5 800mhz that would do over 1150mhz at c5 stock volts or c4 at 1050mhz and a mates set from what we could work out was part of the same batch wouldnt go over 830mhz at c5 stock volts and was only stable at 680mhz c4.

I don't know about your 970 but the whole Thuban series of processors cannot utilise anything greater than 1333Mhz, so there is a good chance overclocking the ram you intend to get will not only be vanity but also the same pot luck compatibility people have had when attempting to use 1600Mhz and >2000Mhz ram with their AMD chip
