FX57 or AMD64 X2?

The FX57 is coming next month, as well as the new AMD dual core. I'm thinking of upgrading my rig, but what would you guys recommend? I know it's a bit early to ask as there's not a lot of tests published on the web yet, but maybe yous got some info I don't? Will the socket of those dual core be different from 939? Of course, I'm planning to put this baby under my mach2gt. I got the mounting kit for the FX, but I assume this won't work for the X2?

Any thoughts?

Well you probably won't be running any apps or games that support dual core as they don't exist yet, and don't know when they will, so for the foreseeable the FX57 is probably the better choice, unless you are going to be running multiple apps at the same time.

I agree.

The intel unit reviewed shows that for todays stuff, the single core is faster.

Technology has a habit of moving much fater than the software that supports it.

It may be 9-12months until that situation changes and by then there will be better revisions of this exciting concept.

I swapped to SLI as soon as it was available and have learned that the 1st edition of anything in this area is often filled with unexpected complications - better to stick with something thats quick and reliable rather than go for the accolade of being one of the first with the latest kit.

Remember that the new FX and other San Diego/Venice cored CPU's wll have the ability to accpet 4x overclocked sticks of RAM, an improved memory controller, with higher overclocks and run SSE3 for better encoding. They will also use less power (and pump out less heat) than the current batch of Intel bashing cpu's.

Cheers

Yup currently dual core doesn't offer much for the gamer. For workstation performance it'll great, but gaming is single threaded so will see no significant gains until programmers start to multithread.
