AMD will almost never be able to keep up with intel in terms of single thread performance and efficiency.Intel is a much, much bigger company and have a huge market share and if AMD do manage to overtake intel chips slightly in those areas, intel simply will just take it in their stride and not be effected because at the end of the day, intel has both the larger fanbase ( or a more vocal fanbase) and the cash to do some marketing.
Before I sound like an intel fanboy, I love(d) my piledriver chip. Piledriver chips in my opinon are the best option for budgetish gaming rigs at the moment. Gaming is where AMD should focus. I don't want them to try and compete with intel on "who can make the most expensive processor", which effectively is what the 9000 appears to be. AMD are onto a winner with processors such as the 63xx and the 83xx. They're cheap and relatively powerful.
Anyway,
I wonder how many of the 9000 will be made? I wonder if it is what "centurion" was going to be, i.e. a limited edition super expensive chip aimed at the extreme overclocking market or maybe it's simply their temporary answer to haswell so that they can stay kinda competitive while they finish steamroller? Either way, it better not be AMD trying to create a product for a non existant demand.
