Future project - Skys the limit...

your right but quad sli 295's and 965 i7's.....can't see that being a sensible idea upto the OP of course as obviously I cannot speak for his cicrumstances, but hes saving up for it so it would appear like many off us that he cannot print money...I can't blame him for wanting i7 etc I couldn't resist either but there come a point when the money far out weighs the benefit. just my opinion/expereinces though.

Agreed with Swale. I've still got Core2Quad and G80 and well happy with it still

If I was getting new I'd slap in an i7, grab me a 295, spank in 6GB DDR3, ***** some money on hardware RAID 5 or 0 + 1 and hand myself a nice sound card.

I might even slot in another 295 to do some physx calcs...

Nothing more.

Only 16k??

It's funny Jimbo, I did exactly the same thing the other day on the Apple site.. Just added absolutely everything I could at it came to either 17k or 24k... Can't remember which. Bit odd but I'm sure it's one of those two.

Well... At least it's nice of Apple to throw in free delivery ay... that'll make such a difference!

Yeah if you throw in a fibre card and a pair of 30" screens it soon shoots up to around $24k.

As for free delivery...i hope its limmo driven all the way to my door :p

Also revolution board I doubt will be a good choice the ramapge is your best bet there will be the best support for it a it's well known the revolution looks over complicated...puts me in the mind of a skulltrail board, over the top

Have you read this thread?

I listened to some of what you said re. 965 being a waste, so that is now a 920 and I've decided on the rampage. Check post #10. I appreciate any constructive input.

Well I'll be brutally honest with u, as Mr Smith hadn't been on the forum, or not as present, I did sneakily think SwaleSmith & Mr Smith were stealthfully 1 in the same :p

I don't personally think the budget is that crazy either. Many of us can remember Mr Smith happening to buy some pretty solid gear on a frequent basis. As it happens the progress in equipment performance got that small that justifying the outlay on a regular basis seemed a waste (big assumption on my part).

Now he's buying a wedge of goods for a yearly upgrade, the figure will most likely be massaged down by anything up to £1k and he'll end up with £2k of cash spending for a year. Sounds a little healthier than a new gfxcard arrangement every 3 months or so. Less hastle too.

A year of planning for a £2k outlay ? Isn't incredibly bank-breaking if u organize ur cash, plan it out and don't have 50 million commitments.

(Does it sound too much like trying to justify my own purchasing around november-ish ?)

Oh and get answers from w3bbo on the Dell 30" he has ;)

Disco. I've spent thousands on PC's, over a long period. Now I want one to last me a year. Couple of grand every year is nothing.

Correct. You can't speak for my circumstances :p I'm not saving up, I'm making my mind up. I've been on here a while :) This is how I do my planning. I appreciate what you are saying but high end gpu's are my thing and now I want turbo fast storage and I need quite a lot, I guess 2tb is more than ample for now!

What you put there is not that diff from what I'm saying, you just omitted the ssd's and raid card...

Save you £40 - £50 quid by buying those exact cards from Play.com and getting 5% off.

Good man but I need to get all of this from one shop!! Prob scan or another big one...

Jim... :whack: if you haven't got anthing constructive to add I'll ban you :p

Amost forgot, thanks again monkey... but I'm feeling 8 drives is too many :/

Why does it need to all be one shop?? If it's postage, then Play do free delivery so having them on the side isn't really a problem :)

If it's just because you're lazy then fair play ;) :p , I totally get that.

8 drives is too many.

I'd go for RAID 5 (3 drives) and an extra drive (maybe a Raptor) just in case. I hope you've got a NAS or similar too?

Personally I think 1 GPU is enough and you can always get another one later if you must.

Hmm you could revert back to 6 drives, but after that you really start losing either capacity (raid 10, 50% loss) or redundancy (raid0, 1 drive dead = problem). A single raid 5 would increase performance over plain disks a bit, but not a lot. And the whole point of the HDD collection was performance.

Yeah too many drives mate lol, Save yourself alot of money and just settle for a normal HDD (WD caviar black even) :P

I get that :) it just doesn't seem practical. I hate the fact pc cases take up so much room, i think the v1000 i have is huuuge. Maybe I can have all my storage elsewhere but then the network speed would be the limitation...

Okay, anyone remember the eVGA 131-K8-NF44 mATX SLI?

Any SLI mATX mobo's for i7 in the works???

It's like everything I want doesn't exist yet! :(

Yeah dfi are bringing one out. look here ;)

Legend!

Looking at the config two 295's will block all expansion slots so no soundcard/raid card... Maybe on eof these might work in this case

I was thinking small ATX case/ATX mobo like like this

I'm thinking getting a 1000w+ psu, two double slot gpu's, water cooling, soundcard and raid card is going to be... A tall order...

TTL, you think you can make it happen?

name='Kempez' said:
Mate you wont fit all that on an mATX board and SFF case

I know, that is out the window! ATX in the smallest ATX case I can get away with!

I PM'd TTL to get some options going...

Can't u just hacksaw off the bits of the mobo u don't think u'll need ?

Floppy connectors and serial busses just get in the way imo.
