Frag's new computer setup

Well as you all probably know I'm parting out my main rig for some cash... My girlfriends dad gave me a couple of computers that he said "didn't" work and didn't want to spend the time to get fixed. Both computers are fairly decent.

The one I chose to use as my new main rig is a 1.8ghz P4 w/ a gig of ram and an FX5200 128mb. It had a dead hard drive so I salvaged the hard drive out of the other computer he gave me, a P3 Compaq Presario, and got it back up and running. I have already purchased a 250gb drive and a new DVD burner for, also off of FghtnIrishNvrDie I picked up a 2.4ghz Northy for $20 to slap in it. Should be a half decent rig that will do everything that I need it to do for me.

Just went out to WalMart to get a new hard drive for the Compaq and have it installing Win2K now. Here's a pic of my messy new setup

What I like doing, is taking some1`s pc (that has the spec that might`ve had 3 to 5 years ago) and pimpin it out with memory it would never have seen b4, a pci card to give it sata or 2.0 USB or raid 133, nice sound 5.1+, a fast harddrive set, a gfxcard u think is really old (but improves the existing one 10 fold) - pasting in a stripped down OS.

The owner becomes happy, u`r in "wow" mode.

hehe lots of ghetto-tastic fun to be had.

Yeah, it's brutal. I can't even get it to run a game or 3dMark without having it BSOD, lol. I dont know if it's a driver problem or what, but I guess I don't really care, hehe.

I would guess its AGP..

He meant PCI, as in regular old PCI. Not PCI-E

easy mistake to make.

Best card I've seen made for PCI is the 6200 TC. It was really rare, so I put a mess of FX5500's into friend's computers who were dumb enough to buy a prebuilt rather than ask me to build it.

I saw an ATi spreadsheet with the HD 2xxx series, and Diamond and one other brand appear to be making an HD 2400Pro for the PCI slot.

It's certainly a step-down from your last rig Frag, but it's definitely the best option in getting the bank a/c back into +ve figures. I'm sure you'll still have fun tinkering...I know I do regardless of the machine
