For the future

Im gonna keep it simple

Q6600 vs something like a e8400

- difference in game isnt that difference?

- difference out of game better on quad?

Use as a secondary rig once upgraded to nehalem, realistically id expect the quad to hold its own longer than the e8400 (in terms of non gaming and for general work purposes) but how much longer are we talking, or will they both be useless?

Basically im thinking of a q6600 for now even if current games lose that 5 fps or so but in the future before nehalem is affordable/after nehalem as a second rig unless tempted otherwise. I understand a e8400 will overclock quite far (but the q6600 will almost match it) and that dualies are better for now, but nehalem may take a while to come into my market price.

Dual core is better for games because of the higher frequency that it can reach and that not many games are multi threaded. For encoding for example, the quad wins. In the future, it will depend if games become fully multi threaded (I don't see why not).

So for now id see very little difference but for the future i would

all the more for choosing the q6600 for now and to future proof as a 2nd pc eh :)
