Folding@home now lets you help fight Coronavirus

Looks like this has become so popular that there isn't enough work units to go around.

I have been struggling to get WUs for the last five days or so. 7 WUs completed in the last eighteen hours, in stead of twenty-two to thirty WUs per day before.

Anyone else having trouble getting WUs?

Yeah, I'm also having trouble getting work units. The PCMasterRace subreddit bigged up their teams and Intel and Nvidia shared the links all over social media.

WCCFTech has also created a folding team to jump in on the action. Definitely a lot more folders than usual.

Just successfully downloaded a WU in it's entirety and it is chugging away :D

Most downloads of late have dropped out/failed before completion:(

Restaurants and bars are closing down as of tomorrow in Oregon, will definitely miss my favorite tap houses:mad::mad:

One thing that's worth noting is that there are now Coronavirus workloads for both CPUs and GPUs now.

That's all well and good if you can get a WU to work on, if you are lucky enough to get just one the chances of getting another straight after are slim to none!!!

And who ever designed the client that after so many tries it increases the time before it tries again needs slapping!, Next try 2hrs....i can finish a WU in that time so the only way is to babysit each client by pausing and starting again :(

Wow - PCMR now has 22,000 active folders, 21,000 of which are new. That's cool to see.

It's been years since I remember having trouble receiving WUs. It usually only happened with new projects.

This only being able to get 5-10 WUs a day is killing my and our teams production. With the newer core 22 WUs being a little smaller than the originals I could easily be running 30-40 WUs a day.

I just hope that when this all settles out and the virus is under control that just some of the new mass of F@H participants remain folding with us.

It is definitely an interesting time for the Folding community. Seemingly every big PC website has jumped in on the action.

I can see Tom's Hardware competing with Anandtech (I guess that's one way to get people on your team), and PC Gamer now has a team too.

To be honest mate i'm at the point where i might just turn all my rigs off rather than just letting them sit idle because they can't get any wu's :rolleyes5:

I'm thinking about installing BOINC in the meantime...Rosetta@home is apparently doing coronavirus science as well.

I haven't been having as many issues getting work units today as I had been for the past few days. Maybe a lot of the PCMR people have quit already, or perhaps there are more WUs to go around.

That said, this is just based on my systems.

I will be looking to continue it, but not at the current rate.

Cannot really afford at the moment to have a 7700K, 2080Ti, Ryzen 7 2700x, GTX1660Ti, and eventually a Ryzen 7 1700x and GTX1060 3Gb running all the time at full speed.

I'd recommend phasing out your CPUs first. They are not great in terms of PPD/watt. GPUs are much more efficient at folding. I only really recommend CPU folding if you get free electricity and/or you're trying to keep your room warm.
