First time computer build, need some help! :(

Yes that's exactly it. And I think I saw one like that in a specialised computer shop in my neighbourhood.
Though the one I saw wasnt from Alienware. But yeah that's about it. Wouldn't this be better? No distracting black lines when gaming or doing stuff. Just like a widescreen tv but not big in height. I think this is very good for the 'Surround' feeling.

Hmm I'll certainly consider it. But then I looked at the price, apparently it's 20 000$ for 3 of em. :S
Overpriced as I would have expected from Alienware.

That...that's ridiculous. Yeah, stick to the conventional way of doing things, if they're going to charge you that much.
The 3 screens serve little practical purpose, as far as I can tell, but instead improve the immersion you experience while you game. Best experience would be on racing games/flight sims, that kind of thing. It can help you on FPS games, as it would improve your peripheral vision.

Yeah I've seen a few reviews now.. The things are monstrous and it big. The screen is 90 degrees curved but it has huge depth like the tv's I had when I was young. 6500$ for one? No thanks.. Ok back to normal monitors.

Alrighty. :) After doing like lots and lots of research I narrowed my build down more.
I dont know the use of a "sound card" though, I don't need one right ? The only sound output I have are my pc sound boxes, my headphones, and my mic as audio input then.
Can you guys clarify me on this ?
And I have a hard time chosing optical drives, a good one, not blue ray.
Are PS3's good for watching blue ray movies on?
Thanks <3

You don't need a sound card unless you're really into your sound, the sound cards built into the motherboards work absolutely fine. Also, optical drives are really all the same, if you're not getting a blue ray just get the cheapest one. I have an ASUS drive that I've used once to install a game and it worked great, otherwise I just keep it unplugged and out of my case unless I need it, they look god awful! And about the PS3, I've had one for a couple years and it's a great blue-ray player if you need one. But a regular blue-ray player would be cheaper if you don't need all the other functions

Josh has the same headset as you so he should be able to advise you there. If you don't need a bd drive I'd just get a cheap DVD writer, I use a Asus model which is not too bad but as I've say before I hardly ever use it.
The PS3 should be good, I've only played games on it and watched DVD and movies from an external hd, never had a problem with it. Do you already have one or are you planning to get one?

Edit: Thank you PapaSmurf6768 making the point with the ugly odd bezel, I talked about it before but I didn't get any support, I glued a modified bay cover of my 650d onto the bezel to hide it, works great until you need to install the OS and you can't open it... :p

Myeah I already have a PS3 so theres no costs for me then.
I have never build a custom rig before so how does it make it ugly? Its inside the case so you dont see it right ? Also do I need 1 or 2 optical drives?
As for sound cards... Hmm I do like clear sounds wich is why I bought my Astro's for gaming and stuff. But if a sound card would improve the sound in my headset and pc audio set I might pick one up.

You see it in the front of the case, it slides into one of the 5 1/4 inch bays. You only need 1, but I don't even use the one I have. If there's room for a sound card in the budget pick one up, but I think the onboard sound will suit you just fine.

The bezel of the odd is made of cheap plastic the front of your case has mesh, brushed alu.... so it ruins the look imo, you can just connect it to install the os and the remove it if you don't need it anymore.
Josh sait that your headset has an amp built into the control-pod-thing so this should do the job of a soundcard

Just for reference:

And then with the drive:

See the difference?

Ahh man thx for the photo man clears things up when I see it. :) <3
Wow... so there is no lid in front of it of plastic same color of the case so it covers it up?
I see what you mean now my computer wich is a stupid 4 year old prebuild one, when I open up the lid theres a small plastic of the case that goes down and the drive comes out.
Are there good cases with this handy feature then?

Lian Li does something like this, but they are expensive, check out my HTPC in the link I've posted, 3rd page i guess

There aren't any cases that hide away the drive as far as I know, you'd have to do what MadMarc did and cut off the stock faceplate of the drive and replace it with the cover your case came with, which is no easy feat.

Great job BTW Marc on your build! The 650D really is a great case :)

Edit: Guess there are some cases that do it, but options are limited.

Yeah awesome rig man. :)
If you buy a case does it also come with led's you see in some pictures or on youtube ?
I do think its awesome when you play at night. :D

Thanks dude, the blue LED fan in yours looks really nice, which model is it?

I have all Bitfenix Spectre Pros in mine, you could see all the pictures in my build log but unfortunately I broke all the links organizing my Photobucket and because the edit function is broken I can't fix it :( But here's something to tide you over :)
