Hey everyone!

I am new to building and looking to share my creations and am hoping to learn a great deal. I have been researching parts using pcpartpicker and newegg for several months. I have a build set to make in the $1900-2100 range with internship money over the summer. I have a question i'd like to ask initially if anyone knows off the top of their heads...

If I have to wait until the end of this summer will there be any upgrades to higher priced gear (GPU, mobo, CPU) that I should wait for? Do they upgrade in the winter/holiday quarter? Since i'm fairly new I haven't experienced buying something and having it drop in price a day later :o

That being said I am pursuing a major in Info Tech and Admin Management with a specialty in Network Administration. I realized that I want a work from home computer with Windows and I already hate switching between Windows with bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. I will want to modestly overclock my CPU (20-25%) but would like to know more about it in case I decide to clock higher in the future. If anyone wants to see my build I will gladly post it.

Post this in the 'New Build Advice' section in 'Hardware & Software' buddy :)

And in order for anyone to need to give us a little more. For example, you've given us a budget, but is the intended use for this PC?

But to quickly answer your question, yes there's some new Tech coming out in the upcoming few months, i.e Haswell, (And the 700 series Nvidia GPU's, which I think is just a back and forth rumor, which is really annoying) But it's nothing to be excited about. In fact, even when Haswell is released in a couple months, apart from the price factor an even better idea not to buy it because the current chip (IB) will be dropped in price.

Hi there and welcome!

IIRC, Intel's Haswell will hit in June, and Nvidia's 700 series is rumoured to come in the next
month or two (just rumours though). Aside from that we might be getting Ivy Bridge-E sometime
this year, but that's not really suited to 2000 USD budget, so you shouldn't have to worry about
that.

Bottom line: Yes you could wait, but if you buy now it's probably not like you'll be tearing your hair
out for having bought Ivy Bridge.

Welcome to the club!

This has been stated already but what is the intended use of the pc? Gaming,video/audio/music, programming etc? What software besides Win7?

New tech will roll out soon so since you have to wait anyway then mine as well get it or you could get the tech now later and possibly get it at reduced costs.

Hi Poofhead and welcome to the OC3D forums,
As others have said there is new stuff coming to the market in the next few months ,but as new things come out they tend to come at a premium.
Start a thread in the " New Build Advice " section and state what the system will be used for and I'm sure you will get advice on what to get.
Enjoy your time here , this is a great place to start. Very friendly and helpful people.
