[font="Verdana, sans-serif, FreeSans"]My first time overclocking. I tried to oc but I need some help with my oc on my 950. my goal so far is 3.8ghz. I dont want to oc the ram. i run prime95 cpuz and coretemp and my pc shuts down with the blue screen.

the temps were hitting 65-69c on coretemp. my set up is i7 950, sabertoothx58, g.skill 6 gig ddr3 1333, hyper 212+ single stock fan. HAF 932 case

I tried it with 1.66 and 1.5v and had same problem. i probibly made a noob mistake

Set Dram at 1.65 and forget about it for a moment. Get a 200 baseclock or BCLK and a 19 multi for 3.8 Ghz. Put the CPU volts up to 1.3 and if it BSODs you've got a shit chip like mine. If it doesn't wait for 5 hours of prime, still no BSOD lower the voltage by one step and so on and so on until you reach the lowest stable voltage.

Try this mate

200x20 for 4ghz

CPU pll 1.8

CPU spread spectrum and pcie spectrum disable them both

Disable speedstep

turn the CPU voltage up to 1.30

And please for the love of god ur not using the stock intel fan

ok will do. i dont know if this is true but i was told that when running prime95 to not stress test the ram if not oc'ing it which can give the blue screen. I have been out of pc's for over 10 years and i was 10 so im trying to slowly catch up

i run hyper 212+, is it good? was 15 bucks

please mate get a noctua nh d14 before u attempt ur overclocking. The clocks ur attempting with that cooler u are ur killing ur and ur CPU will be very very hot. The noctua nh d14 will he the beat investment u can buy for ur rig mate, however u payed 15 buck for ur cooler right? Well add another 110 to that and u can buy a d14 seriously spend the money and you will NOT regret it. I cannot say it any simpler

i searched the hyper 212+ and people say it runs 3.8 and 4ghz very well. i would be happy with 3.8ghz. i will eventually get the noctua in a few months. my stock temps are low 30c

Get the noctua buddy because it will be alot cooler at those clocks then ur current cooler I run my idle temps at 36 on the core and max 55 when priming at 4ghz + never ever seen above 72 degrees on 4.4ghz at max load

ok sounds good. il buy it sooner then lol. ty for the help.

always overclock one thing at a time, that way you know where the problem comes from straight away

and if yo cant quite get stock on everything else(cos of multi) go alil lower imo. Then bake the ram

Im running my 950 at 4.2Ghz, BCLK 200, 21x Multi, 1.288v. Peaks at 71 degrees after an hour of prime. Its sitting under a thermalright 120 cooler with push, pull in an Antec 1200. Motherboards a p6x58d-e.

4.4Ghz here i come

You will be fine with whatever cooler as long as your Load temps stay below around 80C. as everyone else has surgested try and get a 200 BCLK and a 20x Multi, with arounf 1.3V my 930 runs at 1.344v to get the 4GHZ OC i want.

i tried those settings but it crashed during prime, load temps were in mid to high 80c's, i should probably just do it when i get the noctua lol
