First Propper Build: Project Dreamer

Heya

So I’m embarking on a new PC build and to be honest it’s my first proper build as my very first build went horribly wrong and was never completed.

For me this is a big budget project so to be frank I’m super nervous, but hey might as well log what I’m doing.

So here are the parts.

Asus Crosshair IV Formula

AMD 1090T

Mushkin Blackline Ram 8 GB

Mushkin Callisto 40GB SSD

Asus HD 6950

Corsair TX 750 W

Cubitek Tattoo case

OS Windows 7 HP 64 bit

I’ve been really picky with this build; I’ve tried to choose only black or red PC parts while keeping up a high standard on parts.

I’m still to choose a CPU cooler, I don’t plan for a massive over clock so recommendations would be welcomed and appreciated,

Ile probably only clock to 3.6ghz – 3.8ghz

Also as my first build went wrong and there was no reason as to why or what caused it, tips

Last parts arrive after bank holiday Monday

Happy New Year

Now we are on the subject, how does it cool the TT Frio ?

well it keeps my i7 920 oc at 3.8ghz at 1.3v in the high 60s to low 70s at full load with the fans set to lowest

when i try the 4ghz oc at 1.35v it reaches high 80s and if i put the fans on full then low 80s but they are loud at full rpms lol

The only decent coolers to match that colour scheme are the Spire Thermax Eclipse II and the Thermalright Venomous X Black (You'll also need to buy fans). Although for pure performance, Noctua D14 all the way.

With the case Xigmatek Utgard always a favourite, Lancool K62R1, the red interior looks absolutely stellar and it goes well with the RoG motherboard.

EDIT: Another cooler to consider BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro

Heya Guys

Sorry for the lack of responses Ive had a few PC issues namely the old PC that i destroyed when building 2 years ago which i had to have repaired finally died with HDD failure, i will repair her soon.

To Toms Dismay i went the the TT Frio i know it make me sound like a Bat S***t insane idiot, but it really dose look the part.

Anyways she built and alive and kicking and im on her now.

I will follow this up with the processes i went through while building it and things that went wrong etc.

please note i havent overcloked her yet however i have been playing with the turbo boost, plus when i prese CTRL AlT A it adds another 200 mghz to the CPU so without going into the bios i can get a 3.6ghz clock.

Anyways ile add more soon.

Building this thing was a fiddly job, and no I'm not joking i have big hands and the case isn't that big, in fact to give you and idea of what sort of space I'm working with.

The HD 6950 has about 10mm of space between the GPU and the Hardrive cage.

The TT Frio is almost touching the glass panel on the side.

If i was to build this again i would definitely go with a modular power supply the case itself is nice and i may do a review for you guys as it dose have a few irritating problems but their isn't enough space for cable management for a normal PSU. so Ive done my best to hide cables but this case really isn't big enough to do it.

First off i installed the Ram it, it was easy enough to do i lifted the locking switch and applied pressure to the module until it locked itself in place, i must add the ram is pretty nice too look at and makes me wonder about the toxic!

Secondly I installed The CPU and you know what i have to take my hat of to AMD, the last CPU i installed was on a 775 slot and the pressure you have to apply to the locking bar is scary.

AMD make its a whole lot more gentle, i lined up the pins and gently put the CPU in place and then locked the bar in place, it was a doddle

After this I installed the TT Frio and this is where the issue begun, i kid you not when i say it was a pain, a real pain, i was dropping screws bolts and washers everywhere before i got it in place and when i did i had top take it back off as i will go to explain later!

So ive finally got the CPU Heat sink on and ive installed the I/O shield on the case and placed in the brass stand offs and it hits me, my case is tiny and theirs a screw hole on the MoBo under the CPU Heatsink...

So i take off the heat sink and screw down the MoBo in place and then install the Heat sink while in the case, at This point i needed a second pair of hands as i had to hold the Case the back plate the Heat sink and the nuts at the same time. but it got done none the less.

The next thing is installed was the PSU, nothing to add here its simple enough to do.

After this is installed the GPU and this was a mistake, after installing it i realized the Sata slots where under it... and i couldn't figure how to get it back out lol

i bought this Muskin SSD of Aria its only got 40GB of memory but i figured i would be great for my OS so i installed it trying to put in a Sata cable into a slot behind the GPU. but again this was pretty simple so i wont make this wall of text any bigger!

Optical Drive was installed pretty much the same way

I wireed her all up and wiched her on and she worked!!!! not probelms as of yet!!!

I will add pictures soon but ile send a picture of CPU Z and HW monitor, i am thinking of a 3.6ghz OC as ive never done it before and the thought is making me a bit erm nervous.

The images where done after quick succession so i would ignore the thermal readings for the Clocked CPU however i did once fall asleep with it on and it didn't go past the 30s it seems to stay around that area.

I would also like to note that i haven't used prime to max it out, ide rather not tbh.

For me all that matters is that it will take whatever i can throw at it in a real world environment.

I will leave it on tonight and leave it with the clocks up see how it is in the morning and add another screen shot.
