First PC Build

By the looking through other threads, I hope this is the right place to post this.

So this would be my first pc that I will put together myself, which will mainly be used for gaming purposes and occasionally some cad programs. Although I would consider myself somewhat experienced with computers, I don't think my knowledge up there to decide if nothing will hinder the performance when put together. So here is what I am planning to get atm:

mobo: EVGA P55 FTW iP55

cpu: i5 750

cpu cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H50

gpu: Gigabyte GTX460 OC 1gb

psu: 750W Corsair HX750W

ram: 4GB CORSAIR 1066mhz

case: Xigmatek Midgard

screen: 23 inch led

First of all, I will not be overclocking like crazy atm, as I have never done that before. But I will probally get into it once I fully understand it.

So now the question is would this set up work without out any of the components dragging down the performance of others? Plus how would overclocking be with this rig?

Thanks in advance

The LED monitor might be a waste of money. Yeah, they are thinner and that but they arn't exactly a large upgrade from an LCD.

mobo: EVGA P55 FTW iP55 haven't heard anything about that motherboard so I can't tell you not to buy it or whether it's a good choice

cpu: i5 750 good choice

cpu cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H50 get a Noctua NH-D14 since it beats the **** out of the H50

gpu: Gigabyte GTX460 OC 1gb check

psu: 750W Corsair HX750W check

ram: 4GB CORSAIR 1066mhz get some decent speed mushkin instead (1600MHZ

case: Xigmatek Midgard check

screen: 23 inch led

or if you have your mind set on watercooling, do a custom loop. This, however, is going to cost you like 3 times what the NH-D14 costs.

There is a pre overclocking option in the bios of this board , use that if you don't know what you are doing (yet)

brought my i7 at 3400/3600Mhz overclock (not sure what my i5 750 did in that board?!) but i didn't check if it was stable or anything as i rather overclock myself...

I also agree with Mister OC ..D14/Muskin

Oo EDIT and welcome buddy!

I've been looking at similar builds for a friend and i came up with:

mobo: MSI P55 GD65

cpu: i5 760 - on offer at aria.co.uk for £135 bargain

cpu cooler: Noctua NH-D14

gpu: Asus GTX460 1gb or 768mb top

psu: 650W Corsair HX650W

ram: 4GB mushkin blackline 1600mhz

case: Xigmatek utgard

ssd: Muskin Callisto deluxe 40gb

wow thanks for the quick replies

one more question, does overclocking ram change the gaming performance by alot? i know it varies between systems, but just in general. i read online somewhere that performance only increases by a few percent at higher frequencies.

Its more about getting your cpu to a level you can get a decent tie in to your ram dude. When you actually get it and start youll understand.

Looking at that build, i would definatly ditch that H50 for a noctua nh-d14 after seeing the temps it can produce for the price, maybe to save a bit of cash you could always got for 650 watt psu unless you going to add another GFX card, other than that i think you have a good cpu, ram and case but i do not know about the chosen mobo.

i personally would say to go for a amd processer and motherboard as the quad cores and even hex cores have came down in price recently. i would reccommend the GTX 460 768MB TOP as it is in my current system and the only game i have not on highest settings is crysis and it is in a mixture of gamer and enthusiast settings.
