This will be my first build, coming from a 1.5 P4, and i did some research on all the parts i need and picked what i could afford, and was wondering how this measures up.

DFi Ultra D

Opteron 148

Patriot Ram 2gb @ 400mhz @ 2-3-2-5

Would this be too hard for my first build? Because i dont want to mess anything up :) Also i will be overclocking, and i have never done that before either, best way is through the bios is what i hear. any advice on anythin would be greatly apprecieated.

Hi Mate

Best to get the rig up, stable and running before overclocking but there are LOADS of links and info in the sticky's here

Rig looks very VERY nice should be pretty awesome.

What gfx card you going for and what PSU?

You need a decent PSU :)

getting the x1900xtx which should be awesome :) and an Aspire 520 or 680 watt. 680 seems overkill, but its only for a 100 bucks.

ive heard some really bad things about the aspire psu's you may need to get something a little bit better if your going to get a graphics card like that.

it seems to get good reviews on websites. what psu would you recommend?

OCZ Powerstream (2nd best)

Tagan w/e

PCP&C Express (most recommended)

Antec w/e

Enermax (kind of)

Silverstone Zues or Strider (not tested by us, but overall sound nice)

Others I can't think of, though that gives you a decent idea

Here are the PSU's that DFI recommends:

The Enermax is only $83, and I was going to go with it, but I got 2 defective ones in a row. The OCZ Powerstream 520W is supposedly the best. Everyone I've ever seen has said DON'T SKIMP ON THE PSU... especially if you're going that high-end on the graphics. Therefore you may want to get the 600W version.

an ultra-d and a X1900XTX? you gotta be crazy to run that without a PCP&C PSU ;)

Get the 510 SLI

this thing costs 220. lol. a bit expensive for my tastes. Thanks for the advice on the psus though.

Actually if you get it from them, they charge you $197 ;)

What about the Hiper Modular 580W.

I have one and it has never let me down and is real high quality and looks super cool in blue.

Sorry to be asking more questions, but I have decided to get the 146 instead of the 148. Its an E4 stepping. That sound good?

Dont be shy to ask questions , this is what this forum is all about sharing the knowledge , helping each other when we can :)

As for your question i think thats a wise choice as you ll save money and get similar performance or same depends on your overclocking.

Check this thread as it explains the difference :> Click Here

Good luck.
