First build ever

Hi there,

I'm a new poster though i've been lurking around here for a while. I'm still a bit of an amateur, so I was hoping I could get some guidance over what I have so far before I go ahead and start ordering parts. I'm on a bit of a tight budget, but I don't play any major games etc, so the build does not have to be heavily dependant on power and such. The only games I'd play on this are Battlefield Bad company 2, Left 4 dead 2, black ops, crysis and [maybe] Fallout. It will mainly be used for light gaming, work, internet browsing etc.

I'm aiming for a small, sleek build with this, and I chose the Antec Mini P180 for the case...

Another thing I really wanted was a quiet computer, and after research and deliberation, I found this to be the best one for what I want (small/quiet), so I guess its perfect.

With the CPU/Motherboard/RAM, I first assumed the Gladiator Core i3 540 Premium Pre-Built Overclocked Bundle from Aria would be best on my tight budget. However, I wanted to incorporate more RAM, but I don't want to overclock the components myself, as I'm sure the job I'd do would be far too lacklustre. Also, I wanted to use the Noctua NF-S12B (2x maybe), and this would (i believe, as i'm using the h50 as well) make the cooler in the bundle unnecessary.

I also looked into a water-cooling system and came across the H5O cooler, which I would place above the graphics card. This seems to be a cheap and easy option for cooling, and I'm definitely interested, though any guidance in this area would be appreciated...

As for a GPU, I really wasn't sure in this section. My list of games does not require a huge amount of power in the gpu area, but at the same I do want to have some room for other games in future, potentially of better graphics. I chose the XFX HD 6870 Black Edition, but i'm really not sure about this so pointers are needed :$.

I'm a bit lost about the HDD; I'm not sure whether a SSD or a HDD would be better. I'm buying on a tight budget, and I do want a lot of space for storage (1tb preferably). But an SSD is far more expensive and I'm not sure if the benefits of an SSD would outweigh the extra space I get on a HDD for the same price. However, for now I've put the 1TB Western Digital WD10EARS Caviar Green 3.5" SATA II Hard Drive down as the HDD of choice.

As for a optical dvd drive I put down a Samsung Super-WriteMaster SH-S223C for now, which is a simple DVD burner. However, I may upgrade this to an Asus bluray player at some point in time...

The PSU i put on my list for now is the Corsair TX Series 650W: I'm not sure, however, if this amount of power will be suitable, or if I should get more for future use or what not.

My budget would be around 800 pounds for the basics above, then peripherals/software such as a monitor (samsung bx2231), mouse (razer mamba/naga), ms office, windows 7 would be extra on top of that.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I'd like to make a start on ordering parts sometime this weekend, having finalised with you guys that everything is okay.

I really feel bad nobody has tried to help you, so I will try from my iPhone.

The 5870 you are looking at is not as good as the NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti. Also, some of the new LGA 1155 motherboards overclock themselves if you dont think you can manage.

I cant do all the math and give you a list of parts sadly but I can try to push you in the right direction.

I just really would hate for you to come to these forums when you need help and get nothing at all.

Dont buy the h50 get a noctua nh-d14 mate. For a tight budget it would be better to buy a ssd later. Buy a gtx 560 ti. Get a maybe ax 750w or another 750w so u will be able to add another gtx 560 in the future. Look at sandy bridge with h67 chipset and a core i3 when they release in the next month.
