First Attempt At Liquid Cooling

Well i appear to have a problem.

My cpu idle and load temps are fine and my gpu idle temps are fine but when i enter a game my 7800GTX reaches temps over 90C. The water block on the gpu itself is definatly doing its job though as if i feel on the oposite side of the board where the gpu is its cool but if i feel around any memory modules or generally anywhere else around the board its very hot. The water coming off the gpu block is just warm aswell so it seems it isnt the gpu itself hitting 90C. The kit came with 8 heatsinks for each memory module on my graphics card but i needed 9 so i missed one out thinking nothing of it but it seems its the memory modules that are getting very hot. Other people have ran the same setup as me with 2 7800gtx's in SLI with no heat issues. I am just wondering if because i only had 8 memory module heatsinks but needed 9 so 1 memory module doesnt have a heatsink on, could this be causing the heat issues?

Anyway i have ordered some more memory module heatsinks but i really cant see 1 memory module without a heatsink on causing so much heat.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Sam

What was wrong mate?

Woops, should have explained :D

The water block only used 2 metal things to strap it down which wasnt enough but luckily the setup came with a smaller spare water block so I stole the straps off that one to use on my gpu block to give it a firmer hold on the gpu itself. What must have been wrong was that the water block wasnt touching the gpu enough and therefore the card was just heating up and up.

Looking for a water block for my DFI SLI-DR chipset now :wavey:

GL with that. I've seen some random German website that does them. what PSU ya got mate btw? That must be the loudest thing in your case now ;)

Hiper 580W Modular, isnt that loud to be honest.

I will have a pretty much silent system once my chipset is under water and my 2 case fans are volt modded :yumyum:

why not zalman fanmate, then you can easy raise the speed if need to

I think I would just get a fan controller if that was the case but its all more wires where as I like a tidy case ;)

have 2 fanamtes in my case and they can be put away quite well.

they are rather small.

You think it would be ok if i slid the wires behind the motherboard as the fan controller will be in the hdd rack.

would work.

the wires are a flat kind and the fanmate can be disconnected from the wire itself making it easier to arrange it.

however the wires are a bit long but can easily be shortened if your handy with a solder.

heres an image of the fanmate2 which i have 2 of.

no, the holes are different, I had the regular one and it didnt quite fit right, this one prob fits better

I have a mate who used this to cool his FX60, it's just no good on the higher voltage when it comes to oc'ing, it was sitting beside me and I was getting cooked and after a while the heat dissipation was quite poor, he ended up going back to the stock cooling HSF and the temps actually dropped by a good 6-8 degrees.

Some of that could be attributed to the Asus Ventro case, but I think that the fact that there are no fans to assist in the cooling of the water then the heat will always creep up, thats the downside of a silent machine tho, in saying that I found this P180 to be incredibly quiet and still keep my machine exceptionally cool.

Affro
