First Attempt At Liquid Cooling

Hello All

Picked up some nice gear from my mate which never got round to using it. I got a Zalman Reserator with some Fluid XP liquid.

Before i began i read many reviews and found one little tip that I thought I would give a go. Anyway i got it all fitted, made the modification I wanted and added the liquid. I made the tubing come in from a top pci slot, into the cpu, out the cpu, onto the gpu, out the gpu and back out the case on a middle pci slot level with the gpu block. It seems to have worked well and my temps have dropped by 10C on both the cpu and gpu while lowering my system noise level alot. The Reserator itself is totally silent and I will leave it pumping 24/7.

Here are some pictures:

You can see on this image the modification I did, I got the idea off a review to lead a piece of pipe from the inbound valve on the pump to the top of the reserator so that all the cool water going outbound was at the bottom and all the hot water coming inbound was pumped to the top.

This is the liquid I used, I used 2 and a half bottles (2.5 litres) and this filled the reserator about 3/4 full once the tubes were filled.

Comments Welcome.

You definately get an A+ for cleanliness!

The Reserator on the other hand is just... meh... :p

I know it isnt the greatest water cooling setup ever but as I say i got it off an old mate so I am making the most of what i can.

how good are the reserators really? Seems to be an ideal solution for a passive cooler system. Some connectors for the pipes and blocks and it wouldnt be that hard to whack it in as a full cooling solution.

Dont suppose you have your temps before and after install

They are great for a quiet cooling system - but who wants a flipping huge blue thing on their desk? Not me

Good work tho Sam :)

I'd have one for a HTPC - perfect as long as you don't want to clock the hell out of your Pentium 920 lol. AND it has the added benefit of looking nice alongside 'modern art' :P

Nice clean setup tho :)

I'm mainly pointing out his performance, not his cleanliness ;) Insane temps for passive

But you have to cut that guy some slack: he has 5 more barbs than you, a huge Iwaki pump, and his rad is quite a bit larger than yours. For that setup, it's very clean indeed.

Yeah he pretty much got the setup for free to AFAIK... But, I'd rather have some monster aircooling :p

Like a BT! Though as my review shows, to get the best out of it you need to mod your case...

As people have already pointed out, I have just got this setup so why would i want to change. I am not fussed on amazing performance as my opty runs at 2.9ghz on stock v so temps are not a problem.
